Nice dips in the 5k and 10k, even a little around the 18k frequencies. I still stand by @purrin 's Z28 mod - but Bill's looks nice as well.

@purrin - can you send me the link to your Z28 mod measurements I can't seem to find it. I would like to compare the two.

    Thanks, Marv!

It's nice to see my measurement rig isn't really doing anything bad. Your FR graph looks just like what I have.

Subjective impressions would be great, if you have some time. \/

Edit: oh, and I don't have any photo for the current version of my mod, so please feel free to post pics. I'll post disassembly and assembly pics when I get it back, as I'd also like to show some more back-damping tricks that I tried...

Marv went back to something closer to the V1 of the CUNT some time ago. I think the barf version was measured with V2

Why I switched to the V2. The sponge coupler just happened to take away a lot of the HD800's peak.

Dumb idea, but has anyone ever tried to put a dust cap on the driver?

Nevermind, that'd require screwing up the inner mounting mechanism, so it'd probably not be able to support itself due to the extra weight.

I am not sure if this would be the correct thread to post this, but it is an HD800 mod in a sense. I was wondering if there were after-market ear pads for the HD800's that were perhaps a bit thicker than the stock ones - or would that alter the HD800 Z28 mod sound signature?

Hmmm... I was going to ask just what the 'z28' mod was . That aside ,about the only thing that I'd actually heard about trying in regard to the Earpads was to stuff some poly fill material (not cotton, as this will compress a bit too easily over time) under the inside lip of the existing pads & then put them back in place.

I think it's just a matter of "stuff the pads & try for awhile" over a matter of a few days as to how much "fill" seems to give you the balance you're after. At least that's how I found the balance that seems to work best for me. I originally thought that significantly over stuffing the pads would work just fine , but I don't know if it's the distance of the drivers from your ear that is affecting the sound a bit (or the amount of sound being absorbed by the pad).

Okay back to the Z28 mod , what is it ?

Thinking of modding my HD800's. would adding 2mm foam using innerfidelity PDF and then using rug liner from the other material cutout work good?

    Notes:
    1. @Bill-P's mod is quite good. I've used some other materials, so I am not a big fan of over-stuffing the side of the cups (makes is sounds dead and lifeless), but @Bill-P has managed to make the most agreeable sounding mod to my ears without making it dead and lifeless. Fans of the HD800 sound may not like it (and will find reasons not to like it) since the sound is quite different from stock.

Has the measurable difference between dust cover and no dust cover been documented anywhere?
