Sorry- wasn’t able to listen to everything...we can try to ask AMB or Particleman14 if they heard them.

They had a few rooms and had to take turns playing one system in the room at time.

Taking turns plus multiple rooms plus presentations in the separate Fire House building (short walk away) meant that you had to prioritize and be lucky to hear things. The raffle and silent auction took a good deal of time too.

I tried to at least visually capture many displays to give a good idea of what was there.

So the amp built by people on Saturday was a new Nelson Pass Preamp + Headphone amp called ACP+.

I only caught some of Nelson’s talk and he mentioned a new retail amp that uses no degeneration and how he was able to do that successfully. Everything was recorded so we should be able to post links and get all the information later.

This was the first Burning Amp that spanned two days. And you couldn’t do the measurement seminar if you did the amp build on Saturday. So I think it’s great that they are now trying two days for the event. Nicely run, lots of thanks for the volunteers and organizers!

@Cspirou Looks like Nelson Pass also announced new First Watt F8 amp at Burning amp.

There was also a revision to H2 Harmonic Generator, a Korg NuTube Pre-Amp along with the new ACP+ DIY pre-amp headphone amp.

You can see about three of them here: http://www.firstwatt.com/articles.html

Something interesting on phase inversion from Nelson wrapping up article on Korg NuTube Pre-amp:

    “Operation:
There are a couple of points to consider, a primary one being, “What setting do I want?”

That would be whatever makes you happy, but to help you get there, here are some tips:

Remember that the preamp is phase-inverting. In order to get the correct absolute phase coming out of the speaker you must invert the phase after the preamp. The easiest place to do this is at the loudspeaker. Of course if you prefer it out of phase, that's fine with me.

When you invert the phase of the output of the Nutube to get correct phase, then you invert the phase of the second harmonic as well, and now it becomes negative phase second.

This is often what we want, but not always. Routinely people describe negative phase second harmonic distortion as having a deeper sound stage and a magnified illusion of placement of instruments in that depth. Positive phase second harmonic distortion is often described as more up close, intimate and perhaps more detailed.

Let's be clear. To the extent that it works, it's just a psycho-acoustic trick. It doesn't work for everyone, and is not as good on complicated music, where IM distortion is more of a problem.

IMHO it's also trick that doesn't like to be over-done. Some people like to sweeten up their analytical sounding amplifiers with a tube preamp, but you might find that this circuit plus a SET (or even a SIT) amplifier is too much of a good thing.

With a little effort and good luck it will sound great.

Your results may vary, but remember that we are here to have some fun - It's entertainment,
    not dialysis.”

I am toying with building an H2 generator - if there is enough interest I can build it to "adjust on the fly" and set it up for a tour??

would need to look into some mechanism for read out ( or just send it around with a multimeter )

very curious about the F8 - looks like an updated version of the J2 = wish those semisouth's were not unobtanium.

edit - gotta love "It's entertainment, not dialysis"

thanks for sharing and the pics too CeeTee

Ah, just read that the F8 was kind of quietly disclosed and still in development. Not officially out yet. So details may be a bit sparse at the moment.

    My pleasure, @dBel84 !

DIYer Denis Vilafort’s Hybrid Amp in Pass-style cases.

Western Electric 91-A is great but low power.

AudioNote and others improved the old circuit but you lose all the power in the transformation.

Get the tube front end and keep power with Mosfet stage on back end.

Inside of my tube amp tester, seems like I need a new meter dial in it. Powers up but meter DOA:

Man, the ACP+ is something I always wanted to build: a headphone amp based of the J2!
I was actually thinking of designing and building one for IEMs, until I realized I have absolutely no time for it. Didn’t even finish building my F6 after I moved in with the GF, 2.5 years ago...
I only need to assemble the chassis and hook up the wires

^Oh! Hope that this inspires you to finish the F6 as a first step. I'm trying to get existing equipment all fixed before I start to make anything new...your post is inspiring me to try and get something finished that will be interesting to use with ESP 95X.

@dBel84 What do you think of Linear Systems JFETs? And the H2 generator is very interesting...

Yeah, I think I want to quote Nelson "Audio is entertainment, not dialysis."

I think they are a worthy substitute for the out of production toshibas. I built the Korg NuTube preamp using them, I was expecting warm "tubey" sound but it is surprisingly articulate. Compliments the Aleph and Aegir well, possibly a little too much H2 with the SIT amp.
