Back in the 80's when running a small hifi shop, I noticed that using Toslink out from Transport to DAC the sound would degrade if the cheap-ass toslink cable was bunched in the cabinet vs. a nice gradual curve to the DAC. Could be because Toslink is shitty to begin with, it was a cheap plastic Toslink cable, stress on the connectors, or the residuals of bong resin in my head. But I think stressed connections probably comes the closest to reality for me. Bong resin a close second.

I think if someone wants to DIY these risers for cheap then that's fine. Hey if you want to spend crazy amounts on them rather than upgrade your components, it's your money. I do like the idea of making it easier to dust and vacuum, but either way you're never getting laid.

$240,000 on a stereo system?! Man you’d have so much disposable money you could get TOTL Vegas hookers, a kilo of blow AND cable risers made out of the HomeTree from Pandora.

    What an uplifting experience...

That would be my guess, but at this point, this is only my second post (long-time lurker), so I don't exactly have standing.

And that was his first. @warmfug from Canadia. A legend in the making.

@warmfug One thing you may have overlooked is all your cables are wrapped. You have to be careful with that because all insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. Ideally, you insulate your cables with wrapping but also run a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur.

I do that with my cables and I can confirm audibly that it really helps with the layering in the music.

I only listen using class A amplification inside one of these:

Sounds great! although my electricity bills got a little high lately.

I considered that model for my electrostatic field, but my wife wouldn't be happy with the electricity bills. It's TOTL but the inertia of the rings are so high that Class A bias is really the only way to properly drive them. Sadness.

I just opted for a cheapo solution of plastering one of my walls with magnets and the opposite parallel wall with a zigzag of wires that I run electricity through. You can hook this up to a Class AB or D circuit without much loss in audible fidelity.

Toslink works by bouncing around the inside walls of the cable. It kind of skips and bounces. The more curves, the more bounces. Think of Toslink more like zig-zagging inside the cable bouncing off the walls as it makes it way down.

Just thinking about this makes my head hurt.

At first glance I thought that was a dielectric withstanding voltage test set-up

Classic audiofool thinking. "Why have 1 when you can have 2 at twice the price"

Looking at the username and join date, I would say so. They have either been lurking for some time or it is an alt account.
