I recently started vaping, and this stuff is even more crazy than headphones on knives. It took me a week before I stopped coughing uncontrollably and I am absolutely overwhelmed by equipment and people dedication to vaping.
For example :sub Ohm vaping - I do not know anything that sounds so crazy..

I stupidly bought Vaporesso Armour Pro as my first device which has more options for setup than RME ADI-2 Pro. I have not smoked for 30 years so I use 0- nicotine juice, well with some other additives...
People new to vaping need help...

Il support it if it means I can brag about my organic tobacco mixtures and rant about how anyone who doesn't appreciate latakia mixtures should be sent to the gulags.

That does not sound very different than bragging about one and only USB decrapifier that will set you free

I did it for a couple years and became too concerned over sketchy manufacturers, dubious safety claims, uncertainty of how juice ingredients react to vaporization and inhalation, and most of all possibly of heavy metal poisoning over long term from the coils. Not to mention wicks that inevitably get clogged and/or dry, which even ignoring additional safety risks, tastes nasty as hell.

To do it safely, you have to be extremely picky about your materials, upkeep, choice in ACCURATE vape hardware (very expensive), all the settings you use in conjunction, etc.

If you’re not using it as a temporary bridge to give up tobacco, I might argue it isn’t worth it outside of occasional, recreational use. I’m not one to deny personal, consensual choices in life but do want to emphasize possible risks of vaping that seem swept under the rug given we’re still in the ignorant honeymoon phase with it. I’m not gonna rail on actual tobacco use because no one pretends it’s healthy. I just see a lot of folks ignorantly, and willingly so, going into the vaping thing without the thought they’d put towards tobacco use.

If you’re using it as a safer way to consume marijuana products, I would instead urge you to use dry herb with a dedicated dry herb vape that has an all glass pathway (separated from circuitry and the like). The newer DaVinci vapes are a good choice here, though it’s technically zirconium coated ceramic. Just stay away from the sketchier products with metal heating chambers and a lot of plastic in the air pathway.

Now, if you still want to proceed...

I would recommend a box with a DNA chipset. They are not cheap but are advanced and accurate. The Chinese knockoffs might be a lot better these days, but I’d still rather go for the real deal.

Make sure you do research on 18650 battery brands and quality. I’d stick with caution here. Get a good LG or Samsung battery and one that can handle tons of rapid discharge without overheating concerns. Usually this means sacrificing charge capacity, but I think minimizing the risk of your battery exploding cause you stressed it out are worth having to charge more often. And use a good, dedicated battery charger. Don’t trust charging built into the boxes, even the DNA stuff.

Use a temperature controlled coil. Again, accurate is key here. Make sure you research metals used in coils. Some are more likely to off gas or break down into unwanted heavy metal when subjected to high temps. Don’t go cheap here. You may need to build you own to do it right. Make sure the tank uses materials that won’t leach into your juice.

Make sure you use high quality cotton wicks. Use tanks with LARGE wick holes to minimize risk of wick going dry.

I’m not sure if there have been updated studies on VG vs PG blends and health, but I remember sticking with VG only blends myself (health concerns and headaches from PG myself). Yes, this diminishes flavor and is harder to wick because of viscosity (see suggestion above), but may be worthwhile. Make sure ingredients are all high quality and of a very high grade. Not all stuff is of a grade considered OK for inhalation, and sometimes not even good enough for genera ingestion. Specific flavors are riskier than others. Yes, all this makes it very hard to find good juice suppliers. Most stuff out there is mystery garbage.

Pre-filled carts likely aren’t going to cut it. So, if this is marijuana related, as I mentioned, you’re looking at a DIY route to make your own juice. Hence my suggestion for dry herb vaping instead. Making your own weed juice is a nightmare.

So, if you want to do it, do it right. It will not be cheap and it will take a ton of time researching. Be skeptical of what most vapers say when it comes to health and safety. Look for hard data and good studies.

But if you’re not concerned about that, then...Fuck it, just go with what people recommend and you find enjoyable.

DNA or Dicodes boxes have the best temp control.

Even with that, tanks with prebuilt coils are hard, because 316 stainless is a terrible material to temp control, and pure nickel is pure nickel.

Nobody is doing Zirconium coils for some reason, and the wire that's sold isn't consistent enough for rebuildables.

Titanium makes nasty oxides easily so that leaves you with 430 stainless and the various Fe/Ni blends as the lesser evils, and those are near impossible to get on on prebuilt coils last I checked.

Personally what little lung vaping I do is on mechanics with SS coils, because I know what I'm doing by now, and everything else is mtl tobacco extracts on temp control.

Not because of health concerns from smoking, but because it lets me enjoy cigar and pipe tobaccos all day every day without the smell. And also without the risk of setting myself on fire in bed.

How corrosive are those juices? I don't vape, but I did repair one from a friend of mine and the wiring inside was chewed up.

    Depends.

Citrus flavours that actually taste remotely like the real thing are often extracts with citric acid traces, and some others contain terpenes that can crack polycarbonate, but the pitting you see on wires is iron oxide flaking off, not corrosion from juice.

If you run mostly NiFe alloys like I do, the coil is basically permanent until it breaks from metal fatigue, usually during cleaning.

With steel or nichrome wires, people tend to clean them by heating them to orange and then washing, that tends to wear away at coil over time.

I had a DaVinci for a while. It was nice while it worked, but it died after about a year of use. They offered to replace it under warranty if I sent the broken one back, but the manufacturer is in the US, and I am in Canada, and just did not feel comfortable sending a used vaporizer across the border, so I just ate the loss. I now have an Arizer Solo II which I like every much, and it is made in Canada. Something to consider if you are looking to purchase any particular model is how you will have it repaired or replaced should it need. Even in the US with the differences between federal and state laws I guess this is something to think about.

When I think of vaping I just think of all the kids vaping in the bathroom in high school, pretending they are cool.

Well, that's teens all over forever.

In some of the older cities people have been doing illegal parties in disused quarries for who knows how long.

There's some old speeches by a late-empire roman senator where he basically advocates sending everyone young to the army because they're disrespectful, have lost their values and smoke weird herbs, and how everything was better in his day.

I used to be a heavy smoker, 1-2 packs a day depending if I went out drinking that night. Marlboro Reds/Lights, DuMaurier, Players Light, Seven Stars (when I was Living in Japan).

Until the day my Old Man was diagnosed with oral cancer, he beat it the first time and it came back a year later, and he beat it again. Now he vapes and has a wet cough that sounds like his lungs are full of bitumen on a good day. My Mom is also a heavy smoker to this day and see's nothing wrong with it what so ever.

To each their own, but I quit when they found cancer in my Dad, and haven't smoked in nearly 8 years. One of the best life decisions I've made, and I feel so much better, it's literally a night and day difference.

I lost both of my grand fathers to lung cancer, big surprise, they were heavy smokers. I wanted to quit for awhile but being around other smokers made it impossible. Eventually I insisted no one keep any in the house, and I quickly got wise to the “aaah, maybe just the one” trap. I wouldn’t even let myself day dream about it. It’s been 7 or 8 years now, and I successfully encouraged, supported, and facilitated my other half quitting as well. It’s one of the best things we ever did, we’re both better off for it in so many ways

When vaping started to become a thing I did have a moment where I thought it sounded like a great idea, I could smoke again without the smoke! But it didn’t take long to get to “fuck that”. Not only did I not want to undo all the work I’d done and reform this weird dependency, there’s absolutely no way any part of vaping is meant for your lungs. 99.99% there will be medical consequences you cannot take back. We just don’t know what they are yet.

So here’s my vaping advice, people trying to quit tobacco aside. Do yourself the biggest favour of your life and stay the hell away from anything habit forming, don’t even try it once out of curiosity. It’s a slipperier slope than you could ever imagine, and you can’t ever put that genie back in the bottle.

Yes, they found my father had lung cancer, evidently from smoking, I was 26 then and it was the last time smoke, it was 40 years ago. Tried maybe 5 times in 40 years to smoke a cigar it not work. But I need to try CBD, and started with vaping CBD juice. Maybe it was not the best idea.

My problem with tobacco is a lot of it is poor quality.

I'm a Pipe Tobacco smoker. I don't smoke it everyday. In matter of fact, it would be wrong to smoke anything everyday. I normally don't smoke during the week and normally wait for the weekend when I smoke with the Pipe Gang at my local shop on the weekends. I don't understand the appeal of smoking every hour or so. I always consider smoking as an social/end of the day thing to do. I don't like to drink and smoke. I do like to smoke some

Every cig that I had was terrible. From American Spirits to Camels. Then again, I never smoke in order to put it in my lungs. I enjoy the flavor that's in my mouth.

Cigars are great for once in a while. I have an amazing tobacco shop down the road that only deals with Pipes and Cigars only. Amazing selection of harder to find cigars. Too bad cigars give me a terrible rush to my head that it hurts.

Pipe Tobacco is the only type of tobacco that I can enjoy/deal with. So many flavors and styles, but I normally get a black cavendish blend from the jar at the shop. I don't like the bite from English blends (but I enjoy the flavor).

My issue with vaping is it's aimed for cig smokers. Since I don't inhale, all of the vaping stuff doesn't work on me. It would be nice to have a vape that works well for pipe/cigar smokers, but we aren't the target audience for this product.

They do exist but it's 99% very small scale stuff made mostly in Italy, Turkey & Greece.

On Italian vape forums people endlessly discuss minute variations on pipe tobacco extract blends, any mtl atomizer review basically must include notes on how it deals with light tobaccos, flavoured tobaccos, singles, blends, fire-cured, latakia.

We're out there and we have like a half dozen or more setups for our light everyday tobacco, the evening one, the after dinner one, the various special occasion ones ...

There's no point in getting into it for you though. Even if you get the very best stuff it's never quite like the real thing.

Anyone who has ever ... perceived ... the smell of a tuscan cigar will understand why we enjoy being able to get the taste without the smell.

I understand the tuscan cigars. I love them too when I'm in the mood. Too bad the smell is strong even for my girlfriend. Toscanos are popular enough here in this part of the US.

There aren’t enough studies to really say if CBD has true benefit outside of specific cases, such as difficult to treat seizures. I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble trying to find a safe way to vape it. Maybe. At least nicotine or THC will affect you in known ways! Part of the problem is questionable CBD products that are clearly just riding the hype train. Health fads and all that...Eventually the dust will settle and we’ll have a clearer understanding.

Still, if you think it beneficial, just find the safest vaping hardware and juice you can. Try to avoid flavors if you can (boring, but should be safer). Sometimes benefits outweigh the risks.

Otherwise, I’d suggest reputable CBD oils. Go for a mix of sublingual and oral consumption. Maybe it will work, and maybe not. It’s at least worth trying various products and methods, so long as you don’t put all hope in it.

I wonder how it would be handles in Canada. With legalization all the grey area dispensaries were closed, I found out that my son's friend just got a government job and the only thing him and his pals are supposed to be doing is the weed and weed products inspection. Of course it drives prices to the roof but hopefully will improve quality.
