A Sennheiser rep (Eric?) on Headfi promised "a nice surprise for everyone."

Wouldn't it be nice if that's a new Senn TOTL?

Certainly hope so, I remember with my old Audeze rep when I was back at TSAV said they had a lot of cool stuff they planned and was under development, those later became the LCD-5/CRBN/LCD-R. He said prior to those they were making releasing mainstream products but wanted to go back to their roots. And then in 2021 we got the above three headphones.

Hope Sennheiser could think the same and make a splash again with a new TOTL. Lots of best recent Senn had been IEMs with the IE900/600/200

Went to Canjam over the weekend. Saturday was crowded and I mean it was as crowded and noisy as any street in Mumbai. Sunday was better but still not Ideal for open back headphones.
Will update pics after office hours. :)

    Here is quick summary.

    1. ZMF – Tried Atrium Closed and Verite Closed out of my Sony WM1ZM2 as all the amp station were occupied and no one was leaving it. Side by Side comparison with the default pads, VC – with Auteur Solid and AC with new caldera pads which are Perforated outside but Solid inside, the differences were stark. VC is more visceral and had more impact in bass as compared to AC. AC still has bass and Sub Bass but impact was more on VC. In Mids, the difference is easily heard in upper mids where AC is controlled and uniform but VC has slight push in it and hence at a high volume the female vocals may be little hot in VC but not in AC. AC has slightly more controlled treble whereas VC has peaks here and there however those peaks give some holographic and detailed oriented listen to VC as compared to AC which felt like a calmer and more diffused brother. If relaxed and musical listening at high volume is your preference, then AC may be a better choice. At low level listen, VC may be just the right headphone. Comfort of AC however is second to none in Cherry Wood. Light and well built.

    2. FOCAL – tried new Utopia at multiple setups. Put it on and it will be as warm as any warm headphone you might have heard. At one station it was paired with Feliks OTL amp and it was too warm for my taste. When I compared it with Susvara on same setup, I felt Susvara pulled ahead in layering and separation. Each and every note, instruments were easy to listen to and decipher in Susvara even in show condition but with new Utopia I had to concentrate harder to get all the details and sometime the warmth or mid bass were masking few things. Still I enjoyed new Utopia and may be the right headphone if you like Focal dynamics coupled with warm sound.

    3. Final 8K Pro – Wow…I heard it with Enleum amp – both the bigger and new pocket one. There was some synergy going on with this amp and headphone. DAC was Chord TT2 and MScalar. Fantastic bass and details. I felt it was Mscalar that was giving wide soundstage but even if it was the AMP and DAC let it shine. I could easily live with this stack. Foot tapping stuff.

    4. Meze 109 Pro – Best looking and most comfortable headphone in the show. Trend setter.
Sound was not for me though. The treble lacked body IMO. The mids are warm but may be lower treble is pushed back and hence give higher treble too much emphasis. But for its price, comfort and look it is not a bad buy.

    5. Spirit Centauri Planar – The bass was good and the lower mids have nice weight but was sibilant and SQ was not to my taste. I hate hot treble. I guess the pairing was wrong with AudioGD. May work fine with better synergistic system.

    6. Stealth or Expanse - sorry I forgot if it was closed or open one but I used it with Feliks Envy and Aurender A20 stack, right after listening to Susvara and Utopia on it and I felt it was step below Susvara. I will take Susvara any day above it.

    7. Stax 007 Mk1 with Eksonic Amp and Denfrips Ares DAC – Lovely pairing. Good details and texture. Warm sounding. Lovely.

    8. Blue Hawaii with Voce and a new headphone – It was Ok, nothing new and I was tired by this time and it was noisy as well.

    IEMs

    1. Oriolus Traillii JP – paired with Hiby RS8 or Luxury & Precision LP6 – the mids were as good as anything in IEM. I got lost in music. Beautiful for female vocals. One of the best IEM and works well with Sony Walkman or any good DAP. Not power hungry at all. I wish these were at sane price level. Comfort is top notch.

    2. UM Multiverse mentor – I guess these are improvement over Indigo with melodious Mids and controlled treble. Bass was more or less same as Indigo. Punchy but not very tight. Bass texture is my biggest complaint with it. Still very Good IEM but again price is an issue.

    3. FatFreq Maestro SE – Need tons of power. The sub bass is addictive but there is zing in treble and gives the same treble without weight issue to me. Works well with new Cayin N7. Bassy and dark if you are into that kind of sound with N7. Maestro Mini at $400 is much better buy with EQ if you are into this kind of sound. I think I am.

    4. FatFreq Maestro Grand – Prototype version but is an improvement over Maestro SE. Same sub basss but better mids and the upper treble is better controlled. However be ready with beefy DAP.

    5. FiR Xenon 6 – Unique IEM. Mid bassy and tactile feel to bass. I loved it. Paired with my Walkman it got addictive. Came back 3-4 times to FiR table to listen to it. It is the right sound for me but 90% in SBAF may not like it as it is too thick and mid bassy and borderline dark with WM1Z. There is a limited edition sibling Rn6. Limited edition with little less mid bass and slightly pushed treble. I loved XE 6 as it is.

    6. Noble Audio Sultan – is there any bad IEM? Works well with my Bollywood music. Only caveat was I came to this IEM after listening to FiR and hence missed that thickness in vocals but still after few minutes with this IEM and it pulled me right into the song.

    7. EE Odin – tons of details but can get tiring after a while.

    8. IE 900 – Couldn’t get a good seal. Bright and thin sounding to me with whatever tips I used. Gave up after few attempts. Not for me. Pass.

DAPs – spent limited time but quick notes

    1. Sony WM1ZM2 – Best. My own so it’s the best.

    2. Luxury & Precision DAP – Grand and Big sound. Expensive as well.

    3. Cayin N7 – Warm and dark. Pair with bright and thin IEM. When I moved to Cayin N7 from Luxury & Precision DAP, I had a DejaVu of going to Drop Airist R2R DAC from Gungnir.

one let down to me was the DAC used with some amps . I wanted to compare the Feliks Envy with Ferrum Oor and when I heard Ferrum Oor it just was downright flat. I couldnt beleive such stark contrast but then someone corrected me. The DAC on Ferrum Amp was Dragonfly Cobalt and with Feliks amp was Aurender A20. The same was true at many places. Enleum AMP was paired with TT2 and Mscalar and HM1 was with Weiss but on the other side all other amps were with RME. Not ideal to judge any amp.

I agree with you on the new Utopia. I was pretty surprised how warm they were on the Naim setup. I found the soundstage to be a clear improvement on the past Utopia. The bass was boosted in comparison, a little bit to much for me but I never really had a problem with OG Utopia bass. The over all tone was very warm considering I was listening to a Naim amp. I heard some good layering but I am not sure people who really enjoy the OG Utopia will love this new one. Also the price is just absurd.

I feel like the TOL headphones are sounding more similar and similar to a degree. The prices are just really up there and the diminishing returns seem to be hitting really hard these days.

I think if I buy any new headphones in the future it will be ZMF Atrium open. I was really impressed. Great sounding with a good soundstage and very musical. I really enjoyed that headphone more than anything else I heard. Probably my OG Utopia is a bit more resolving but the Atrium comes close enough and brings a better soundstage and are just fun to listen too.

Yeah DAC and amp combos is always little tricky for us behind the table. I got to pick out the Weiss to go with the Zahl and the Chord stuff with the Enleum to match. First CanJam SoCal headphones.com we opted to have like every setup with the RME but as we expanded our offerings, it becomes a lot trickier to figure out what to match with others. Think some of our pairings ended up becoming a pairing of convenience rather than intentional choices.

The next CanJam we are planning on doing is SoCal in September so will give us more of a chance to plan out pairings for the next time.
