does “no cell coverage” using 50% of my battery life make any sense? I always have cellular turned off and only use wifi on this phone.

the battery still drains really fast I have to charge it 3x per day.

Everything I’ve read says Airplane Mode is the fix for this. The phone is spending battery life searching for cell signal.

It’s not just about Mobile data but the phone is looking to connect to cell phone signal. Looks like your service provider doesn’t have good coverage near your residence and hence it’s draining the battery.

@rhythmdevils Yes, I think @Ksaurav402 is right. The "Cellular Data" setting just indicates whether or not you want apps to be able to use your mobile data plan when you're not connected to WiFi. It does not control whether the phone tries to access your cell network so it can make calls. So it keeps searching for signal, draining the battery. As @shotgunshane pointed out, putting the phone in airplane mode actually deactivates the cellular radio all together, which prevents the phone from seeking a signal, and thus draining the battery. You can still use WiFi in airplane mode on ios.

Aha! Turning on airplane mode turns off WIFI but I can turn it back on again. While keeping airplane mode on. I wish I knew about this sooner! Thank you!

Happens a lot with my wife’s phone when she’s at work. She works in a basement with no signal and it will drain battery fast because it’s looking for a tower the whole time.

Not sure how to use WiFi without the phone connection. I did feel like the iPod Touch was good enough for me but that’s been discontinued

i don’t even have a SIM card in this phone. I use an older iPhone X for cell stuff. For complicated reasons.

But you can turn on airplane mode, which automatically turns off WIFI but then if you tap the WIFI icon it turns WIFI back on with airplane mode still on.

The reason why this can drain the battery quickly is that not only smart phones, but also cell phones are actually very smart. They measure how strong the signal from the tower is and adapt how much power they use for sending accordingly. If the signal is weak, they will use much more power, which will drain the battery.

They even stop sending anything at all if they are not moved once they are successfully booked into a tower (and not used). Not the smartphones of today, as apps using the internet will always use the network every now and then or even constantly, but but the old cell phones. That’s why a “feature” called silent SMS exists. Prosecutors can send a message to a phone that hasn’t sent anything to any cell tower for a while. The phone will not make a sound or show a message. But it will talk to the cell towers, and the prosecutors can be sure that their target hasn’t switched off their phone and moved somewhere else.

Very tedious question, does anyone know if USB Audio Player Pro can be induced not to resample 44.1khz files to the android standard 48khz when playing to a Bluetooth device (pixel 3a, android 12, LDAC to Go blu)?

Tried the neutron player trial, seems to have no problem doing this. can't seem to get UAPP to do the same. I know it's not the intended use case, but UAPP has a less terrible interface so would prefer to stick to it if possible.

    Does

Settings | Android audio | Android sample rate | Fixed 44100Hz

    not work in that situation?

Thanks! Hadn't tried that and... it still doesn't work!

No big deal, I guess I can live with Neutron Player's slightly dodgy interface since it seems to be better at passing the audio relatively unmolested.

I need to buy an ethernet cable to connect my Verizon Fios router to my PS5. Last time I bought one there was only cat6. Is that the right thing? I have Fios's 200/200 plan and need about a 15 foot cable.

From what I understand you can always use higher numbers for products that specify lower cables. The basic construction is the same, there’s just features (shielding, wire thickness, etc) that allow it to transmit higher frequencies.

Help me get the old google news format back???

I was be pestered by the umpteenth banner to try the new google news and clicked it today to see if anything had changed from the last time I checked. Still not to my liking, so I tried to find the switch to revert back. It is gone!

Any ideas on how to switch it back for that specific account profile?

Or any ideas on an alternative feed. Windows machine, fwiw

So, recently I've had issues with my desktop waking up from sleep state in the morning.

When I click the mouse, the mouse lights up, but the PC doesn't respond. The power button on the PC does nothing. The only way I've found to wake it up is to flip the switch on the power supply off for about 2 seconds and then flip it back on.

It works every time, but I'm worried that the problem is going to get worse.

    PSU the likely culprit?

I suppose I should open it up and be sure no wires are loose/becoming disconnected.
