If you check out "The deals thread" you can find the coupon code for 40% off one item. I had to make 3 different purchases.

I was gonna hit submit order button until I found out that Amazon sold them $3 more than B&N (with expedited Prime shipping), so I didn't get anything.

But anyway, envy for Discovery. Random Access Memory is still their best album though. Love the bass, just gorgeous.

I actually got 3 day shipping for that $3 difference. All in all not a bad haul. Still on the lookout for Morning View and Make Yourself on that colored vinyl.

Today's haul from the local shop. All for $20 and the guy even threw in a beat up version of "A Love Supreme" for free.

That's the best part of having a local shop. You get to know the crowd and get those sweet deals that keep reeling you back for more. I can't wait to start shopping at my local place more.

Sorry, I am an ignorant American and everything should be in Freedom Time.

    Happy Fathers day!

Visited a couple of record stores in London today. All are new except Blues and Roots which was a crate find. The new King Creosote is superb, highly recommended!

jazz records are roughly 75% of my collection, where 180/200 gram records will get me excited. So this hipster colored record showed up on my doorstep and I couldn't resist snapping a shot.

I wish they made more cool looking vinyl records. I can understand that black is great and all but some color is nice every now and again.

Holy f**k, does this sound good!

    IMG_2141.jpg

I've always thought Hall & Oates albums sounded fairly lousy. I thought it was in the original recording and mix. This album exhibited what I came to hear as their "signature" sound, which was overly compressed and small, constricted soundstage and a fair amount of distortion, probably due to too many goofy FX in the chain. But regardless, I like some of their albums a lot. This was always my favorite. The Mobile Fidelity pressing however, SUCH an improvement! It was one of those cases of hearing it for the first time. It sounded like a different mix. I haven't gone back to listen to the original pressing or the CD yet, but I think there's a very pleasant slight emphasis under 200Hz or so and the high end too, but that's a GOOD thing in this case. While I wouldn't call it natural sounding, the percussion is RIGHT THERE, hard hitting and detailed. The soundstage is MUCH wider, deeper and fuller. The vinyl is dead quiet and I can hardly detect any compression, the dynamic range is much wider. Some of their vocals actually sound like real voices now. Their albums all sound dry to me. Not THIS pressing! I would have graded their recording and mixing at about a 5 in the past, but this pressing shows it's actually closer to a 7. Not great, but so much more satisfying to listen to.

    What a difference a day makes! :(

    IMG_2142.jpg

I'm not sure if my system is acting up or what. I expected this new pressing to sound at least as good as the hirez file. NOT. The vocal was OK, but not as clear and the bass was all mud. I could barely tell it was an acoustic bass and the piano sounded weak and unnatural. What a disappointment! I'll have to try again, I'm suspicious of my power... maybe that could do it...

    I also picked this up:

This sounded better, but still not great. hmm... This should sound great...

I feel your pain. Just get them, do not look back because when the recordings sound good you close your eyes and go on an amazing trip through sound.

Gilberto's vocals are in that very sweet melt-you-away into the twilight zone spot. Well done by Resonance Records... A fair amount of tape hiss, and pretty warm sounding, but a very emotional connection.

Haha it's bought man. I was listening to it earlier and talking with @JoshMorr about how sweet it is. Love the bass guitar.

Also, he brought up Talk in Tongues... Another wicked psych rock band. Need to pick up "Alone with a Friend" on vinyl.

    Killer listening session last night!

Was listening to Jan Lundgren - When Love Comes Around, a Japan only pressing on the Marshmallow label. Accompanied by a dram of Ardbeg - Corryvreckan...washed away the mental crud of a long work week!
