Creative SXFI Amp dongle - I like it -not a review

I have only used the Creative SXFI Amp for a few weeks but it is showing no signs of major faults in sound. I thought the dac/amp in the LG G7 thinQ was good but has less of a predominent upper end and has gobs more power. I am only using it with lower end iems yet the sound is an improvement over the LG and I have used that with a number of iems and a few Senns full sized.

The nice thing is its included short usb c cable snaps to a nice fit with the phone and has not once wiggled loose in my pocket while walking. I have used a lot of the usual suspects under $200 or so and this is quite nice. And at the $59 promo price I think it is worthy of a blind buy.

 

Did yours come in a retail package with the CAL! SE? I'd like to know how the Creative app handles the HRTF/DSP stuff that released alongside the SXFI.

 

@Sqveak - Mine did not come with a cal se whatever that is. The Creative app is pretty useless to me.

The fancy dsp used by taking a photo of your ear is for a very small list of their headphones and a few others. Instructions are to listen to all the different models listed if your model is not on the list. As for EQ, their app has it but I think you can only use their player which is a no go for me as I use USBAPP and Tidal.

 

@bixby - The CAL! SE is a re-tuned Aurvana Live! that was originally sold as a pack in to showcase the SXFI's spacial DSP.

CAL! used to be the standard abbreviation of Creative Aurvana Live! when it was a community favourite budget recommendation. Mainly prior to SBAF.

Oh, now I get it, I actually had the og aurvana live way back. They have offered it with other cans like the lower cost iems I think called the trio LE or something.
