Well you are quite the idiot aren't you...I'm not quite sure on your reasoning that I am a lazy ass for asking questions, on a forum for just that.

I am so terribly sorry to waste your time, sir.

I am here to learn, like many. I have been reading and researching different options for months trying to decide what exactly would work best for me and my wants...again, sorry to be so lazy and waste your time, sir. I did not ask for cheap, I stated a preferred budget of $2,500 or less.

We own an extremely busy construction company, so working 7 days a week and 100+hrs is normal, so I apologize for being lazy and wanting you to spoon feed me, as you say. Best not waste any more of your time responding to my "waste of time" thread, there appear to be a number of others here interested in offering their opinions without being idiots about it.

Thanks everyone else for offering advice, and following along as I try different options out.

I am looking at the Schiit EITR as a USB to SPDIF converter, anyone here have experience with it, or other decent quality units.

Gaspasser, please don't "waste your time" responding as I am just a "lazy ass" looking to be "spoon fed".

Dude, I’m the idiot? You completely prove all of my points with your Eitr question. All I’m saying is read more and stop posting this nonsense. We are all busy, but many like me enjoy researching and reading quality posts and not waynestractor.blogspot.com

    Edited for grammar

Yeah, I didn't really want to go the PC route, and was hoping for something that was relatively plug and play. I am pretty happy with how it sounds going from the USB of the tablet to the RME, but have a Schiit EITR on the way. It is quite handy, and much easier to read, with the tablet as opposed to my Fiio X7ii I was using.

@waynestractor is a 50 year old gentleman from Vancouver Island who is just looking for some help navigating the nebulous world of digital audio, much like your grandfather might need help from time to time getting the printer to work so he can print out the local church's Sunday sermon. I believe that in the interest of giving back to the elderly we should leave this Yahoo! Answers thread open and help @waynestractor on his journey to enjoying Dire Straits and other dad-rock in peace.

Given that you are using the RME DAC I do not think the Eitr is the right solution for you. The RME unit is better served over its USB input than it would be via S/PDIF from the Eitr. Since you have already ordered it however let us know what you think of it versus the sound direct from your tablet.

I think the best solution for your use case would be a small headless computer with a USB output that you can control from your tablet but the units that are plug and play in terms of setup do cost a bit more. Such devices are not commonly discussed on this forum, and you may be better served posing your same question on Computer Audiophile or Audiogon forums.

Ah you felt bad and edited with advice, good man. I'll take that dislike and keep your original post in mine for good measure though :)

Don't worry, that was not directed at you but at k4rstar's original shitpost before he felt bad and edited it to give you proper advice.

I agree with him by the way. Get a small footprint NUC or similar that you can connect via USB to the RME and control via your tablet via WiFi. There's somewhat of an annoyance in the initial setup but once you've got everything configured the way you want, you can keep the tablet unplugged and control a music player installed on the NUC from it.

Gotcha, I must have missed that. It seems there is someone with a little too much free time on their hands Googling and/or writing about me:)
A few have made the NUC suggestion, and I have looked at the options a little, but will look a little more.

I have been listening to this setup for a week or so now and am pretty happy with the sound, and functionality, so far.

Another member here has taken offense to the fact I did not take everyones advice, and has ASSumed I am using the "crappy HP output" of the tablet. I have no idea why he would ASSume that. And yet another member, for whatever reason I am not entirely sure, found the need to post about my age and fact I was asking for advice, on, of all things, an advice forum...how dare I!

I have looked back a few times and am checking out most of the suggestions to see if I find something I like, but for now this seems to fit the bill quite well.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, just pointing out that you need to read more and might spend your audio money more wisely on devices like the Allo digione signature or usbridge. I investigated something similar to what you are looking for here.

I like the ADI-2 as a DAC to an extent. I was very interested to buy one as an AIO until I heard and read others impressions of the ADI-2's headphone out.

I'm happy to offer advice and you are free to do whatever you want with it.
So no hard feelings and I wish you well in your audio endeavors.

So I decided to pull out the Marantz HD-DAC1 and do some back to back with the RME. I read so many reviews about the RME before getting it and they were almost all great, other than the odd one.

I was happy with the sound of the Marantz when I was using it, but listening to it then the RME, I was really surprised how much better the RME sounds! It is far clearer, and the soundstage is very noticeably bigger. I went back and forth a few times with the same song...the Marantz is very muffled in comparison.

The plan was to keep the Marantz, but after hearing it side by side, I am now going to put it up for sale. It just doesn't sound good to me after listening to the RME.
