WOW, you sure do like to whine about things. Maybe you should unsubscribe from the thread if you don't like it, or just not comment??

So this is where I ended up with my Desktop Server search. A big thanks to all who offered their advice. I spent a ton of time on forums and reading reviews of many "in the know" so to speak. This option turned out to make the most sense to me, and works great!

I am using UAPP on my Samsung S5e Tablet, which is loaded with approx. 150 cd's worth of FLAC files and running Tidal HQ. USB out to the RME and XLR cables to the Phonitor xe. I was happy with the Focal Elears but came upon a great deal on some Utopias so jumped on them and am glad I did. I think this setup will keep me happy for some time.

Just saw this thread. Got somewhat similar setup like yours. And have been using Android (smartphone, tablet, android tv) as server/player for years. Mostly thru UAPP and tried a bunch of others (Neutron, Hiby, Onkyo, Foobar etc.).

Things that bump up SQ on my Android device are:

    1. USB Regen/Revive device (ie. LH Labs Revive, JCAT USB Isolator etc.). Between your DAC and Tablet. Its good!

    2. LPS (on the case of my Android TV and DAC).

    Hope it helps.

Curious as to whether these impressions re: the Node 2i hold up with recent updates like Tidal Connect and the like (when hooking up to an external DAC via coax of course)? Looks like Tidal has finally broke the Oppo/Tidal integration, so I'm in the market for a new music streamer and so far it seems like the Node 2i may be the best bet if one does not want to venture into the Pi2AES waters.
