My 15 WPC Tubelab SE is proving not to be a great match for my Omega alnico monitors. Anyone have any ideas of some SET DIY builds? I am less interested in kits and more interested in full projects, but am open to anything. I am currently eyeing the Neurochrome DG 300B and the Elekit TU-8300R (mainly cause a friend has a kit he is trying to unload). I am also looking for something with more than 2wpc as I think the alnicos need a bit more power to wake up.

I know I should probably add the Bottlehead stuff but I feel like it would be more fun and cheaper to not go the full kit route. Any others have experience building some SET stuff?

I've ordered the Neurochrome 300B board set. I'm also fairly close to you in the South Bay. The DG300B is more or less a "kit" though... aside from the fact that you have to source all the parts (and at least one is obsolete now with the replacement not fitting on the board LOL!). There's also a 300B preamp with headphone jack from Transcendent that looks somewhat interesting, but also a kit.

There's a ton of schematics for DIY SET amps out there too. I had narrowed down my choices to the Neurochrome and one particular schematic which employed 6SN7 drivers, but in the end wasn't entire sure how well tested that circuit was. So DG300B it is... we'll see how it goes. The BOM gets up there it price pretty quickly, so it'll be a longer term project for me in all likelihood.

Looking forward to your completing the project. It's a great sounding amp. I might have some decent EH 300Bs I can sell to you for cheap.

I always respect those paying the iron price for their gear. I used to do it, but then got a girlfriend.

I'm also currently looking for a diy SET idea. I'm thinking personally of using the KT120 tube as it can output a pretty decent amount of power (for less efficient speakers) and is a relatively cheap tube.

Thanks! I'll gladly buy those 300Bs. I mean, Marvey 300Bs would be icing on the cake actually. PM me on those any time. I've already collected some parts...

I'm going to wire it up for 7DJ8's using the 6.3V tap, and picked up some Tung Sol PCC88s pretty cheap.
