With some spring sockets (like on original Stratus) this is easy mistake to do, esp in dark. Screw sockets, like on my EC2A3, very difficult to press the tube in wrong way.
Some guys here have made this to Stratus --> magic smoke escaped.

Amp circuit sucks 115mA. The 5Y3 is 125mA per plate x2 = 250mA. There barely's any inrush - just a 10uF cap before the choke. These tubes have a good peak max anyway. Honestly, I'd go 5AR4. Much less voltage drop than any of the others. The others were mentioned because people who are gonna roll are gonna roll. Best to give 'em something to do that won't blow up anything. I'm sure there is other stuff out there that will work if you peruse the toob books.

Definitely NO 5U4G and NO 274B

@MrButchi, nice single plate tubes and black Yggdrasil. Looking forward to your impressions.

Thanks for your kind comment, but they're merely ShueGangs proposed by Craig.

Please do not hang on to my impressions too dearly - I don't see myself posting anything before a couple weeks at least. I talk enough shit when I focus properly, so imagine if I just spurt out-of-box BS. And it will likely come in the form of a comparison with Black Widow 2, with Utp and HD800.

Me too. If I right click IMG and "show image in new tab", Malwarebytes blocks preview.ibb.co. That happens if I come to this page now, also. I get that on some other pages on SBAF, but this is the first time I have pinned down what was triggering Malwarebytes.

    Incorrect.
The 5y3gt can handle only about 125 mA max total not 250mA for a capacitor input PS, it can be a bit more for choke loaded PS but nowhere near 250 mA.

LOL. Craig's ancient RCA tube book says 125mA per plate. Probably a typo. The plot on the link says 62.5mA per plate. 5V4 then.

This is probably a dumb question but is the JJ 2A3 -40 a compatible output tube?

The JJ2A3-40 (we have them here) are outstanding for their price. It should be noted that the amp doesn't make full use of the higher plate voltage allowed by the JJ2A3-40

Man I am an idiot, I thought this a nostalgia thread about an amp that I would never be able to own. Maybe I confused it with the Super 7 thread. Now, I may have to sell some things. The only issue I will have is justifying a purchase of a new headphone amp when only 5% of my listening is through headphones. I declined to buy the new Focal cans for the same reason.

As long as you put $65,000 into your speaker amp, your priorities are still in proportion.

@Marvey saw your post In the Super7 thread where you said second run is expected around December. I bought a ZDS this past summer and I'm planning on ordering an Aficionado next summer. Will they still be available for purchase or will this be a limited run?
