ECP Torpedo III [indexed in first post]

hmm, i tried the torpedo with the vibros and h400s(brainwavz angled pads) and the result was not good at all. I am surprised the lcd 3 works well, its a hole in my theory. For comparison the he400s sounded great out of rag, leckerton and it even sounded ok straight out of my phone. We had the 400s in the se of the rag while the hd600 was in the balanced. Volume was pretty close and you almost couldnt tell the hd600 apart from 400s, tonally they were very close.

Btw I bought the torpedo the day after hearing it with the thx00 and hd650. It is thhat good with dynamics. The thx00 had such seperation and clarity, it convinced me to keep them. Im selling everything else and keeping just gungnir/torpedo/hd650,th-x00 so please dont think I am trying to knock t3.

 

I wouldn't mind sending my he400s to someone else who has a t3 for a listen. In general, I dont think they get enough love on sbaf. Just let me know if your interested and Ill send them over.

The CCS boards work great. I can't offer a subjective comparison as I had not heard a T3 in a few months before making the change, but I can say that they work as expected.

For anyone who wants to try these, if you make a donation of $5 or more to the Tree House Humane Society (a cageless no-kill cat shelter in Chicago) and send me an email about it (my username here at ecpaudio.com), I'll send you 2 CCS boards and two pairs of angled pins (the pins are only available in big sets which cost ~$10 and I have extras). Hope I can still get in on these boards. Didn't sign on last night.

I rolled tubes this evening, having tried RCA 12AV7 and RCA 12AY7 previously. I decided to try Sylvania 12AT7. Installed them, warmed them up, started listening. I was liking what I was hearing, with high gain and volume at only about 25 to 30%.

I should say, I liked it until I start hearing a slight hiss on the left side at the end of a song. Next song plays, hiss is still there and gets louder. I pause the song, and still hear the hiss. I turn down the volume all the way and I still hear it. It starts getting louder, and I throw up in my mouth a little bit. Power off the T3, dejected.

Any idea how this could happen? I'm concerned I may have damaged the amp, making me nervous about turning it back on.
