I believe the jacks we used on the T1 were discontinued and the replacements were so arranged. Not the sort of thing we have any control of.

Does anyone think there would be a way to fit 4 caps with dimension: 45 mm diameter x 70 mm length in C7,8,9,10 ?

No way without some really creative (and probably dangerous) case modifications.

    Mcap EVO Series, 40mm W x 27mm L

OK, quite a bit smaller. :)

Huh, yeah, hadn't noticed the discrepancy. TomB, obviously you have boards handy. Would you be able to measure the through hole distance and rough center to center spacing laterally?

Yep - I actually have the CAD files. Give me a bit and I'll post the dimensions.

It's important to note that Fierce Freak had to chop a huge rectangle in the top of the case to make those fit. He was OK with that, but not many people would be. ;)

Measuring in the CAD files for the PCB, the horizontal width space - for each cap, assuming you went all the way to the inside edge of the case slots - is about 24mm. I would caution that real world experience is often different. You may very well order caps at a certain diameter and find that they are really one or two millimeters off - either way.

As for length, the pads go from about 27mm to 53mm, with several increments and combinations available in-between.

Ah, SilverGold Oil caps.... spendy stuff!

So, figure 24mm X roughly 52mm without going bezerk and hacking cases.

Actually - they fit fine without any cutting, just barely. I've checked the thermals - they're acceptable. I've installed a few sets in a few TIII's with success - with one more underway. They really so elevate the amp.

Yep, I was just paranoid about it. I'm mostly glad I cut out that rectangle, though - with some effort I can roll tubes without removing the top haha.

I'm now considering a mazda 12Au7, a "nicer" pair of 6072a tubes, or some 12at7 variant.

OK - so they fit without cutting the lid. That's good to know. :D

Where did you get them from - Parts Connexion?

EDIT: Never mind - found them at Sonic Craft and ordered a couple of sets.

Did you heat shink the leads?

If you want to sample a set of Mullard 12AT7, let me know. I have a spare set you can borrow. They add a bit of warmth to a microZOTL to take some edge off, and have a nice soundstage. Not the most ultimately detailed tube, but detailed enough for my liking.

I used teflon tape to wrap the leads. Heatshrink could work, but I like the flexibility of the teflon for installation

-edit- and thanks for the loaner offer, may take you up on it

Anyone have any good suggestions for an all around good tube that plays nice with a pair of HD650s (modded) and HD800 (modded)? Looking at the Amperex 7062. Don't want tubey sound, just neutrality - maybe with a slightly tilt in the bass.

For the hd650s I still quite like the stock tubes although they are a little bright. For more warmth without tubey sound maybe try ge 6072/12ay7.
