@MortenB I'm interested in how you fit the TKD. It's not surface mount, and I think you'd mount the lugs facing up and run jumper wires down below the PCB. It looks like there is a through-hole in the corner of the PCB that might facilitate this? I can't quite tell. Mine just arrived and I have not had to chance to open the package.

Thank you for the clarification about pictures. I'll try tinypic - let's see if this works... YES ;)

Regarding the TDK: I'm using the compact 2CP-601, it's even more compact than the Alps and with a bit of fiddling, it should go right into the circuit board. But I'm considering using some different RCA connectors and then run twisted pairs of high quality wires from the RCA sockets to the volume pot. If I do that I will turn the pot so that the legs points to the side, and I will solder the wires directly onto the pot. I will know what/how to work with this once I have the parts and can evaluate the situation...

I appreciate that the Torpedo III is made for the easiest possible DIY installation, and for the cleanest possible layout and look - excellent work at that..! In my experience top quality RCA's and wire sound better than traces on a circuit board though.

I see. I wanted to make a 2CP-2511 work. I was also looking at Cardas GRFA S connectors. As long as I have pot lugs out in the open, might as well wire to them point to point, plus I have a thing for connectors.

As I understand it the two types of TDK pots are more or less the same quality, so I just opted for the more compact one (also cheaper).

I agree regarding connectors, actually it's my experience, that connectors can have bigger impact on sound, than the cable / wire. I have top class RCA connectors + wire etc in stock, so I might as well use it.

What chassis wire are you using, out of curiosity.

I don't know yet... It will depend on how much/little space there is, and what wire I have that is suitable. I think I have some DH Labs 18AWG solid core silver hook up wire left from previous projects. If I do and it fits, then I will use that http://www.partsconnexion.com/wire_hookup_dhlabs.html

The tightly matched Telefunken ECC801s just arrived... It will be really interesting to check, how they work in the Torpedo III, are they really the best of the best..?

Dick waving aside, these are really amazing. Would recommend if you can find them at a sane price somehow.

Yeah, those tubes are pretty damn cool looking, and the Brimars I heard sounded great in the T3. Win win!

I'll write up a proper impression once I can get my friend's HD800 and HD650 in the house.

I just ordered a pair brimar yellow t 6060 on ebay. Costed $125 shipped not sure if it's a sane price. The product and seller looked legit though.

Interesting. I'd like to read detailed impressions of these because normally I find Brimar too warm and gooey. I've never heard these, however.

I think the military/premium British tubes sound notably different from the typical civilian ones (more neutral, clearer, tighter bass). I agree that the typical British tube is super gooey, though I think they work well in the T3, which is kinda neutral-ish and aggressive on its own.

Edit: Now I need a use for all these spare 12AT7s. Maybe an SRX Plus is in my future...

If it's warm and goey then I am for it. It's sounds neutral with the stock eh. I am used to of a warmer signature.

Whatever Brimars @MisterRogers used seemed to be on the thicker, warmer side of things when I listened. Nicely balanced if you like that sort of sound, and not overdone. I preferred them over RCA because a lot of RCA tubes sound a bit U-shaped to me.

Thats what they say, while Brent Jesse says the Yellows are higher quality. I have no idea myself.
