I have a Hifiman Jade II, which is my first experience with estats. There are a lot of things I like about it, but it gets the timbre of stringed instruments in particular totally wrong. For lack of a better way to describe it, it sounds a bit like the timbre you’d get listening to an old-timey radio or bad tube amp. Is this the plastic-y timbre people complain about with estats? If so, are there any headphones that manage to avoid this or ways to correct for it?

I’ll have a bit of a write up on the Jade II after I can spend some more time with it.
