From everything I've seen about the OG ER4, although it was super well-received and liked, it seemed a bit too bright for my tastes.

However, since they decided to make the ER4XR, which looks to have a nice bass boost, I am very intrigued. Have been looking for some good IEMs to take around with me everywhere.

Are you talking about the soft touch rubber coating? Happened to my hf3, haven't gotten around to cleaning them but it can be done... I've done it for other electronics with similar coatings, takes a lot of elbow grease to rub it all off tho... I think I used rubbing alcohol last time.

You sold me my ER4 earphones by telephone when you were with Headroom! Over the years Todd Green has helped me with orders for filters and ear tips. At some point my original pair of ER4's developed hairline cracks in the housing and Rick Carlson at Etymōtic replaced them with the ER4P and he included the ER38-24 cable at no charge so I could have the best of both worlds. The version I have now still has the nostalgic red, blue, and green cable. I'll buy the ER4SR when it goes on sale.

It's the color part, like the earbuds themselves or the volume control. I tried cleaning it too but it's almost like the casing itself is having some sort of mutation or chemical reaction.

Yeap, it's just a coating but it can be super thick and goopy... Had the same thing happen with an old GPS, a small Bluetooth adapter, and a mini portable speaker. I think Puerto Rico's humidity makes that kinda coating deteriorate quicker. I've cleaned it off on half of those, haven't done my Etys or the mini speaker yet.

If it becomes too much of a pain I'll call Ety and see what they say... They also have that program where you can replace any dead IEM for half the sticker price, worse comes to worst.

EtyDave has kept posting on the previously linked thread, mostly discussing why they chose the MMXC connector implementation they did, and discussing cables etc. Pretty frank and transparent communication, kind of what you'd expect from Ety.

Sorry for the off topic post but I noticed a few mentions of HeadRoom above. Yes, we are working on new amps and the balanced version will also have fully balanced output connectors on the back. We're still tweaking and production is a ways off but I'd love to get some feedback on the new amps from the folks here. If you're interested in beta testing our new products please send me an email jamey (at) headphone.com. Also, I would be happy to send a few out for a Super Best Audio Friends tour if desired.

Hoping to win the prestigious Golden Schlong Award with these new products so your input is much appreciated.

BTW I am working on getting Ety loaners. This may take some time but I hope to have more information in the next few weeks.

Loaners of their existing models or the upcoming ER4 revs? Sounds cool either way!

He's providing very interesting and useful info and answering all questions as best as he can. I asked for help on how to remove the metal Knowles filters I stupidly fully inserted when trying out red for more bass, and he gave me clear instructions on how to best use the stock tool. A minute later and I had them out no problem. Cool dude.

On April 28th Ety told me no exact date had been set yet but it would be "about 3 weeks." 3 weeks from that day is 5/19.

Sorry just providing an update as I spoke with my contact and as of right now no release date has been confirmed or announced. However, I am to follow up in a couple of weeks.

I know you monsters are chomping at the bit on this but be patient.
