Michael Myers is probably the most enigmatic slasher villain. In my latest I dissect his relation to America's underlying social anxieties.

I just watched the movie "I'm Thinking about Ending Things". It was quite an interesting watch, and was rather confusing for most of it. I am not completely sure if I thought it was good, but I did appreciate watching it. It's classified as a psychological thriller, but I am not sure I would classify it as that. I found it more of an existential commentary. Here is a trailer.

It really is nothing like this trailer, so go in with an open mind. The sound production and music used in the film was rather good as well.

I find Charlie Kaufman movies interesting while watching them but I can never seem to commit to watching them again. Intriguing but ultimately empty?

Except "Being John Malkovich" which gets better every time I see it.

Yeah, I knew social media was really bad, but not to this extent:

Thats' getting a lot of buzz right now. I havent had a chance to watch it yet. Kind of scared to but might be necessary. Im dedicated forum only, no social media. Facebook is warning that they may pull out of the EU - is that a blessing in disguise for Europe?

Anything without facebook is a blessing.

People also don't seem to realize facebook and most social media doesn't actually create content. The users create content. And yet you aren't paid for it. If you create content for a movie studio or any business, you are paid, because they are profiting off your effort.

Social media is the pimp and you are the ho.

Yet people continue to create the content, without cash payment, on a massive scale. Why ? Serious question, what do they (we) get out of it for posting our thoughts, opinions and actions online, continually, daily ?

Full disclosure: I've never been paid cash/goods to post online but have been doing so since 1985.

Massive doses of ego fulfillment for curating the most favorable perception of yourself, while the ugly truth gets pushed further and further into the basement.

I would paraphrase your final line: "Social media is the parasite and you are the host."

Years ago when I first encountered Facebook (2nd hand--someone showing me this or that) it looked like a real waste of time. Later several family members developed severe addictions to it, posting all the minutae of their lives...I began to see it more insidious. In recent years, the profusion of foul political & racist rants, the co-opting of Facebook by Russian trolls and other malign forces, and serial data breaches made it absolutely off-limits for me. I wouldn't visit that mess for any reason.

SABF & Head-Fi are about as "social media" as I get. I use them for distinct purposes rather than metastatic self-revelation & promotion.

Before Marvel became the coca cola of movie franchises (and that's not necessarily a compliment), there was Blade, the subject of my latest video. X-Men is often cited as the catalyst for the modern super hero craze, but Blade did it first and did it better. And I'm sorry Mahershala, but Wesley Snipes will always be Blade.

New video every Wednesday at 12 noon Central.

I think he can pull it off, he has a similar presence and has better acting chops. Snipes was never an iconic enough actor for me to think he completely owned a role, but I can see the perspective as he brought Blade in to the mainstream.

Im not sure if I want to see it as i have such a profound love of the book and have been tremendously disappointed by previous attempts to put it on screen. You can tell its a Villeneuve movie from the trailer and the trailer does make it look like this may actually be a good remake. Maybe there's hope!!

The key is more time. The Alan Smithee version simply tried to cram too much into a single feature length film. Other than that, I rather liked it despite the creepy liberties that it took. And let's face it, can't beat Sting as Feyd.

Thr FX channel version was marred by horrible casting (Duke Atreides on 'ludes) and a pace more suitable for a book. I can't even remember much from it.

The book's good in world building, but other that that, it wasn't that good. Most of the ideas were sci-fi cliches ripped off from history or other sci-fi. I read the book in two days - otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Most of my high-school classmates were WTF is this shit. I can definitely appreciate that perspective.

Dune is arguably a Shonen so there will be cliches. The world building and mythology are on point enough that it doesn't bother me. I havent read it in a while, maybe I'll give it another go. Didnt bother with any of the rest of the Dune series.

The FX or Scifi? Syfy? mini series, cant remember much of it either, other than I think Susan Sarandon was in it and that it exists. I too didnt mind the feature film, helps to have read the book, wonder what Lynch would have made out of it if given the license, some have said he was out of his depth, not sure I agree with that.

    Just got back from Tenet.

Imagine the timeline explanation scene from Back To The Future 2, only ten times more convoluted and only being able to understand 40% of the dialogue, the other 60% being swallowed by music or sound FX or just heavy British accents.

    Tenet in a nutshell.

If you're going to make a time travel/inversion film with extremely convoluted plot mechanics, at least allow some post dialogue recording so I can understand what the f**k is going on. Nolan's movies are becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy as he disappears further and further up his own ass. It's as if the audience is just an afterthought and nobody at the studio has the balls to tell him to stop.
