Filter foam vs. speaker cloth

    The HD6xx mods in various threads suggest cutting a hole in the stock foam filter.
    As I'm sure some may have noted, this is not reversible and, further, allows debris to enter the naked driver (also: I can't say I'm totally impressed with the hole-in-the-foam sound).

    AKG uses a fabric to filter the driver unit underneath (it's attached to the velour pads). The fabric seems to be very similar to loudspeaker (grille) fabric.

    Anyone try this on their HD6xx (replacing the stock foam insert with a similar-shape speaker grille fabric)?
