Focal Elear Loaner

Recieved the Elear today. Will send out to @bazelio on Wednesday.

 

Sweet. And here I thought I'd be comparing them to my Utopias but those porkers still haven't arrived yet! Grrr. What are you going to do.

 

Just dropped them off and they are on their way to @bazelio

Will write up some short impressions and post in the Elear thread later.

 

I'm super excited about @bazelio getting these now. I'm counting on you to share your Elear/ZDS impressions. And I'm glad your virgin ears haven't been soiled by the Utopia. We all know everything else will blow goats once you get those...

 

Haha. You got it ButtUgly. Looking forward to these, and though I've heard about their impressions offline, I've intentionally avoided reading the NY feedback so far. ;-)

 

Just FYI, the Elears didn't arrive on my end yet. So my 10/21 -> 10/26 window will be pushed out if I'm going to keep them for 5 days. Tracking shows them due to arrive 10/25. I'll shoot for forwarding them to @philipmorgan on Halloween. Although here's a thought:

@sphinxvc and others: What do you think about allowing me to keep these through the following weekend to bring them to LAX so folks can listen to Elear + ZDS at the SuperMeet? It'd add about 4-5 more days to the schedule.

 

I don't mind waiting. I've got the Utopia loaner and a heavy workload at work to keep me occupied in the meantime.

 

I'll get in on round 2 if possible.

The Elears arrived safe and sound in the Bay last night, and I just unpacked them now. Everything is in order, except @Marvey 's little RC circuit has fallen apart. At least one busted solder joint. I can take a look at it later .... maybe.

 

I took a brief look but never tried using it. Honestly have no idea if they were busted when I received them or not.

Did you manage to take a look at it when you had it?

I know nothing about DIY, but I'd be happy to send some money if it needs to be replaced. If indeed it happened on my watch, I can make a claim through FedEx, had it fully insured.

 

@Mystic It's something that could just be resoldered. It looks like a couple solder joints fell apart - not too surprising looking at it. It's not an insurance claim issue.

 

Hmmm... I used it, and a/b'd it with the Elear and with other headphones, just to confirm what I was hearing from it. I was frankly surprised none of the joints were busted when it got to me, but it was working fine when I used it and I checked the joints before I packed it.

I really need to post my impressions, but here is a great teaser: for the eq circuit I wrote "Adapter = Grado-fier?"

I am also willing to contribute $ for repair as needed, since I was the last person to see it alive that night.

 

@philipmorgan isnt going to the meet, so I'll mail them out to him the following Monday, aka one week from today.
