I remember listening to a prototype of the X00 and feeling very "meh" about them. Plenty of other cans that fulfill that same sound. I had listened to ZMF's Omni just before. ***Both auditions were pretty short, out of different rigs and these impressions from memory months later - Salt salt salt.***
The Omni had noticeably more bass and a more in-your-face presentation than the X00. The overall soundstage of the X00 felt larger and less congested.
Been wanting a closed back again ever since I sold off the Mad Dog about a year ago. I didn't feel that either of the aforementioned headphones bested my in-ear JVC FX850s in any significant way to justify buying either as my bass oriented flavor.

Looking forward to hearing the product version of the X00. Perhaps the changes will be enough to change my mind.

    Indeed. TH600s were horrid.

BTW, you're all comparing it to the others Fostex's, what about the old Denon's made by them?

I owned a D5000 with self-applied Lawton Dynamat mods. Nice lush sound, a lot of mushy bass, and 9kHz treble peak galore.

So the bass of the THX00 is at least better controlled than the old Denon D series? That's nice to know.

Do you know from memory of the earpad openings on the DX00 are smaller/larger/same size compared to the old Denons? The earpads look very similar, but the openings might look slightly smaller on the DX00?

Sorry the repost but I think my question got lost. Can you compare with the Omni as well? I find the bass quite good on them even though they are T50RP mods but maybe I am missing something. I just want to know so I can decide whether to purchase the X00 and eventually sell the Omni in order to fund a better source. I'd rather not if the Omni is comparable or better, but I know you've heard both so I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Would this be a good match with the Liquid Carbon?

Marv, I assume the BW would be a great match for this? FWIW, the BW seems just about a great match with every non-stat HP that I own..

I found, typically, that planars have better bass control and mids than dynamics. Dynamics usually have better treble and soundstage. That's just what I've experienced, and is more of a generality. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I can't wait to try this headphone. I really wanted to like the TH600, but...well, if my reddit review of it is any indication, that headphone ruined any love I had of V-shaped signatures. Almost as bad as the T70P ruined any affection of bright headphones I had. I've found Alpha Prime had great quality bass, but that's the only thing that headphone did right (I otherwise hated it.) The Omni and Blackwood, on the other hand, handle bass and mids magnificently.

I need a good closed headphone. I hope this pairs well with the JDS Element.

Holy shit, I really want to get a pair, but even $400 is too expensive for me... And I'm not even sure if I can participate to a loaner program because I don't live in the US.

The openings seem smaller and there also seems to be less real estate inside the earpads of the TH-X00. My ears just touch the insides of the pads. The pads are usable, but don't have quite the awesome fit and comfort of the TH-900 pads.

The Copperhead would be a better match. Less bloom, leaner, slightly more precision and control compared to the BW.

I haven't sent out the JDS Element yet, and although it wasn't my favorite combo unit in the recent comparison review, the JDS Element pairs well with the TH-X00 because of its control, power, and explosiveness.

OJ is dropping the Omni off my place this weekend. Maybe OJ and I will do a shootout of the X00, Omni, and Nighthawk. If we have time, we'll plot our observations on the Messianic Heptagon.

Could you talk for a minute about how the other contenders from the DAC/Amp-combo review pairs with the TH-X00? How do they pair with the Schiit stack?

Smaller ear openings than Dx000 series seems like a no-go for me then. The Dx000 series openings were just barely roomy enough to be considered comfy. I will wait for Ether pads measurements and subjective impressions on this one.

Are Ether pads available for sale? I'd order them and measure them quickly. Maybe even send a set of pads out with the loaner?

I know the alpha pads are. I'm not sure if they're the same pads for the Ether or not. I'd be nice to see measurements and impressions with these, because the Alpha pads are pretty nice.

marv please keep this arrangement/appearance for future CSD measurements, its so much easier to read/nicer looking than the V2 plots from chang

other than the slight 3khz and 11khz ridges these look pretty damn nice, wow.

I don't think he sells Ether pads, and they're different from the Alpha Pads. (not angled, less rectangular in shape)
