With all this recent older hifiman talk, my want to hear the HE-4 has increased significantly. If you are looking to sell, shoot me a PM.

Picked up a pair of original HE5 LE that a fellow transferred into a pair of HE350 because the headband broke. Included rewiring to 2.5mm from the original F connectors. He did a very good job. Selling them because I found another pair in mint condition for a good deal. Comes with he350 box and the original he350 drivers. Selling them for $300 shipped. Limited to friends and contributors.

Good luck finding the HE4, it took me daily searching on every classified I can imagine for literally 3 years to find one. On the used market they are rarer than the 4-screw HE6 and Code-X oddly enough.

Also with the HE4 you really will want to mod it, treble distortion peaks are a bit distracting stock. Takes a bit of brain burn-in to get used to even coming from other HFMs.

If you can't find one after some time, you can borrow mine for a little while just to quench your curiosity since we're working together on other stuff.

HE4 may be too old, and not sure about the warranty from HFM. Once driver is dead, it's difficult to get it be repaired. Why not try the new models from HFM, just my 2 cents...

^ Because most of the HFMs post-2014 seem to follow a similar-ish (boring) target FR response and the older HFMs are more unique sounding in terms of timbre, dynamics, and tone compared to other current production planar cans... especially the HE4, even though I can see it being polarizing (love it or hate it).

The response and shape of the newer offerings also make them a bit more difficult to mod and pad swap with. Part of what attracts me to the vintage HFMs is that the modding potential is vast and you can really dial in the sound you want.

To me, without proper amplifier, HE5LE sounds better than HE6(both 4 or 6 version), that's the reason I sold my HE6 and keep HE5LE. You may keep your le and try other models in your setup first. LE is a very good headphone and doesn't require too much power from amplifier.

@E_Schaaf hit the nail on the head. Older hifimans are a fun diy project. A simple blu tac and pad swap with older hifimans dramatically improve the frequency response.

They also have different design methodologies. Older hifimans focused on stronger magnets and newer ones focus on thinner diaphrams (also applies to audeze and to an extent mrspeakers). I have found older ones to have more character because of their power requirements.
