    SOLD

    .

Selling an ESX900 I got new from Ev. It sounds great, but I've minimized my setup to just one headphone, one dac, and one amp at this point for simplicity, so this has to go unfortunately.
    • EMU Purpleheart slim cups (these are not the same cheap ones on the EMU purpleheart headphone, but really nice custom-order wood cups, see pics).
    • THX00 headband with headband cover
    • Comes with new set of ETA custom pads
    • Comes currently terminated in hardwired balanced 4-pin XLR; however, I believe Ev can hardwire other cables/terminations if you send it to him (talk to ev about this!)
    • My ESX was specifically tuned to be neutral; however, Ev has generously agreed to give a fresh new pair of pads and will retune the headphones specifically for the next owner (!!) @E_Schaaf feel free to followup if I missed anything

Let me repeat that: Ev has offered to retune this ESX for the next owner according to their preferences, and will ship with a new set of ETA pads! This basically amounts to a brand new ESX900; given that new ESX900s usually go for ~$1300, this is a steal, especially at the friend price.

Asking for $969 shipped CONUS for friends/known contributors, and $1100 shipped CONUS for everyone else (trying to give an especially good deal to friends/contributors, may lower later). Paypal fees +3% or gift. This will ship from Ev's place in NY.

Thanks for looking! PM me first, and once things are set I'll get you in touch with Ev as well and we can work out full details.

Killer price from a wonderful person. This should go soon and the buyer will be treated like family I'm sure. The fact that they'll get tuned however the new owner wants them is a great bonus as well!

To be clear this is a THX00 with TH900 drivers? Essentially a TH900 / ESX900. Just making sure in case provenance is important to future owner - looking at future resale value.

What headphone have you settled on?

It's a ESX900 with a headband taken from a TH-X00, has TH900 drivers, and purpleheart slim cups. It's been kinda frankensteined together by Ev to make a ESX900 if that makes sense. AFAIK there's no difference between a TH-X00 headband and a TH-900 headband, so I could've said "TH-900", but want to be transparent where it came from.

EDIT: Missed your second part-- I've settled on a Utopia, which I feel has the best synergy with the ECP stack I have and I don't need a closed back for my current living situation

I love how the thread title says 'purplehead' and not 'purpleheart'.

I already have these in hand so there will be no delay in terms of starting a retune for the next owner. I'm working on some tweaks that will make the front filter not needed which was a reservation for some owners.

Slim cups like these have more forward upper mids than the mellower deep cups which some found too withdrawn. Slim cups are a bit tighter in the bass, but with less rumble even though extension is still basically bottomless.

Looking forward to working on these. GLWS

Bump with a measurement for this set as they were first sent to @pure5152 -

I can adjust to whatever the next owner would like, but they sounded great this way for more 'general purpose' listening vs some of the more niche tunings I've done in the past.
