Apply a high-pass filter so bass doesnt bother neighbors. Digitial or analogue. High pass filter may make life easier on amp requirements too, not sure.

What would you replace with?

Out of respect for my neighbors I use high-pass, open baffle speakers (natural bass cancellation), and pa JBLs that arent designed or capable of playing very low (meant to be supported with a subwoofer).

 

No point listening to speaker for me if I have no bass.

I have DIY Fostex BLH behind them that I rotate in on the regular and are much more resolving, requiring less volume. They don’t lack bass, but aren’t in your face.

 

I was wondering if you were going to choose a worse compromise and hassle by getting x bookshelves instead of going with a "lo-fi" solution like high pass filter. The Fostex BLH is no compromise at all for this situation, probably preferable as you described, nice!

 

$1000 is a steal on the new era 4312g. Music Direct has these at $2k for an open box set.

I'm going to keep these as the ultimate soundbar deluxe, thanks to reading the Jason/Schiit chapter on their new micro/nano (the Gjallarhorn is on the ground peeking out behind the SW51+) speaker amps. So far the Gjallarhorn can't hang with the M22 when powering the BLH (I didn't expect it to), it's for summertime when the M22 make the room too hot.

 

Nice! It took me a hot minute to even realize they were stacked under the tv and weren't just a cabinet.
