Moth Audio is the prior company of Craig Uthus (Eddie Current) and a partner. The si2A3 (2A3si ? gets written both ways) is a single-ended, zero-feedback, Class A, three watt per channel tube amplifier utilizing 2 x 6Sn7 drivers, 1 x 5AR4\GZ34\GZ37 rectifier, 2 x 2A3 power tubes. Sharp-eyed viewers may recognize a familial resemblance to various current EC designs.

Some details on the amp can be found at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0600/mothsi2a3.htm

The 2A3Si remains the only Moth / EC amp that is direct coupled in the interstage. No transformer. No cap. So it's special in that sense. I'd say the sound with the Electraprint OPTs is more traditional SET. More classic, more romantic than the current EC offerings. It's not mushy like an OTL, just more organic and rolled, but still super resolving...

The chassis on this is immaculate: no scratches, bumps, scrapes, etc. All mechanical parts present and working.

This is big, think 2 current EC chassis stacked. This is heavy, it shipped to me in the original wooden case & I'd prefer to ship it to you that way.

This is pretty much an antique, so other than guaranteeing it wont arrive damaged or dead, you get what you get
Audition and pickup and\or delivery in the Chicagoland area would be strongly preferred on this one.

Price is $3750 plus acutal shipping, buyer to pay any PP fees on that amount.

My current favorite amp is my Moth 2a3S with old tubes.

I am trying to get another Balancing Act running and then maxxed out to see how they will compete, but right now I would be happy with the Moth as my endgame amp. (I re-bought a Balancing Act before I had found the right tubes for the Moth.)

My Moth is a little different as the power supply and rectifier tube are outside of the chassis (I keep mine right under the amp with layer of glass in between). I am in love wtith my amp and if this one is basically the same...it can change tonally and qualitatively (quite adjustable) with tube choices.

It has great bass control, slam, and extension (to me, granted I'm a mids-head first) along with fantastic mids and good upper extension. The attack is fast and clean while the decay is just beautiful and "glassy" with the right tubes.

Headstage isn't "huge" but it is 3D rather than just bigger plus wider like other tube amps. Layering/front-to back staging is forward and engaging.

(With the wrong tubes to me, upper mids were a little too forward and hard, with other tubes a bit too rolled off and closed down but with current driver and output tubes...sooo happy.)

This is big and heavy, but beautifully made inside and worth it if you are into it. Good luck with this sale!

(Ogodei is great and I have had good dealings with him.)
