Closed: THX 789, Cavalli tube hybrid

Hi everyone. Now that I have upgraded my gear, I’m selling off some items I no longer use. The two remaining items are open to everyone.

Massdrop x Cavalli Tube Hybrid: $100
I’m the original owner and purchased this amp in March 2018. It’s in fairly decent condition.

• there’s a tiny chip on the top-front of the amp; there are also two small chips on the top, rear of the amp
• important, please note carefully: our kitten bit the cable near the end that goes into the amp; please see the two photos of this; in one of them you can see a small section of exposed copper wire. I have wrapped this in electrician’s tape, also photographed.
• the amp has an intermittently scratchy pot. This hasn’t been enough of an issue for me to bother trying to fix it. It also happens fairly infrequently and, when it does happen, it goes away quickly enough
• the amp comes with the original tube which still sounds fine although it’s been used a lot
• the MCTH comes with its original box as well as the shipping box

All items come from a smoke-free, cologne-free home. When not being used, all headphones have been kept securely in their boxes or cases. We do have cats, though, and this matters specifically for the HD 6XX, MCTH, and Clear (see the descriptions, below, for specific info about this re. each of these items).

Massdrop THX AAA 789: $100 SOLD
I purchased this amp used in June of 2021. I used it very little, adding perhaps ca. 25 hours of use to it.

• It’s in good condition but has an occasionally scratchy pot, as with the MCTH
• it comes with its original box [edit; sorry, I don't have the original shipping box as originally posted]

Massdrop Fostex TH-X00 Ebony: $375 SOLD
I am the original owner of these headphones and got them in December 2017. They’re in very good condition.

• 
  
  • There is a noticeable scuff/scratch on the left-hand cup. It’s almost a centimeter long; I don’t think it’s deep, probably just in the lacquer, but I can’t tell for sure. Please see the pics here, including the ones with the arrows pointing at the scuff.
  • these headphones are very difficult to photograph. It’s like taking a photograph of a mirror. In good or direct light you can see the texture and grain of the cups; in poor light, they appear almost black (and highly reflective)
  • there seem to be a few other tiny nicks/marks/scratches on the cups. They’re visible if you look closely for them.
  • Otherwise these headphones are in lovely condition; I barely used them because I found them fatiguing (partly from the closed-back nature of the headphones - I suspect it’s a pressure thing - and partly from the 8 kHz peak). I doubt they have more than 125 hours on them; I would have sold them sooner were it not for my sentimental attachment to them (they were a gift from my wife and the first pair of expensive headphones I owned).
  • Please note these are the earlier version with the fixed (i.e. not detachable) cable
  • The headphones come with their original box and faux leather pouch
  • I’m also including a Geekria case to put them in for more secure shipping and storage

Focal Clear (the original one, not the Mg), along with replacement Clear and Elex pads: $650 SOLD
I’m the second owner of these headphones and purchased them in February 2020; they were originally purchased open box and refurbished from headphonesdotcom. The headphones are in good condition.

• There are three sets of small chips on the edges of the cup, next to the mesh, on the headphones (please see the photos with the arrows pointing to them)
• Please note that the headband is creaky
• Please note carefully that very, very rarely - and only when I play the opening track on the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack, which has a strong opening percussive hit - I can hear some distortion/break up in the left driver (I’m not sure how to describe it). I don’t listen to much music with much sub-bass content, and it is only with this piece of music that I hear this sound. Even then, I hear it only with one of my amps, the MCTH, which is quite bassy and slams pretty hard. Otherwise the left-hand driver seems fine. I suppose this has something to do with the driver’s excursion limits? I really don’t know. The the vast majority of the time (like 99.5%), it’s not an issue for me but it needs to be mentioned here for the sake of full transparency.
  • If you like electronic music or Hans Zimmer soundtracks, I don’t think this pair of headphones is for you.
• I always used one of those Geekria fabric headband covers when listening to these headphones but, even so, the underside of the headband and the original pads have discolored somewhat.
• The sale comes with all the cables and original packaging, including the travel case, the Focal box and the double shipping boxes.
• Most of the time, I used only the short 3.5mm cable. The fabric around it is slightly frayed in places, and the velcro strap around it is in poor condition, a kitten having got his teeth into it.
• The other cables have barely been used.
• Also included are a pair of new, replacement stock Clear pads, which I paid $190 for, and a pair of new Elex pads worth $60, I think. I used both pairs for ca. 2 hours to see if they made any difference to the sound of the headphones.

Massdrop Sennheiser HD 6XX: $150 SOLD
These headphones are in very good condition. They haven’t been used much because I prefer the HD 600. They have probably only ca. 100-125 hours on them. I’m the original owner; I got them in March 2018.

• Please note that the stock cable briefly fell victim to a kitten and has a few bite marks on it. As far as I can tell, the bite marks didn’t puncture the rubber sheathing of the cable. You can see the indentations on the cable in the photo.
• Because of these bite marks, I’m also including a stock HD 600/650 cable with a 1/4” plug
• The headphones come with their original display box and the paper box that surrounds it. That paper box is in poor condition, having several tears in it.

Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr.: $325 SOLD
I’m the original owner of this amp and purchased it new in July 2019, after Massdrop fixed the hum issue that affected some of the units. This amp has the white dot on the back, which indicates that Massdrop had fixed the hum before selling it. The amp is in good condition; I don’t see any cosmetic issues with it.

• The amp comes with the original, stock front, i.e. first stage (driver/input) 6Z1P pentode tubes
• The amp does not come with the original second stage, 6N24P double-triode Voskod rear (power) tubes. One of the rear tubes died.
• I replaced the rear tubes with two other sets:
  • one pair of 6N24P tubes, which I have not used or tested. I purchased them via eBay from a seller in Japan.
  • another set of 8 tubes, also purchased through eBay, in September 2019, from this seller who is in the Ukraine. I don’t know what kind of tubes they are: they were listed as “Russian USSR tubes 6N24P / 6Н24П ( ECC89 ) Lot of 8 NOS.” One pair of these tubes are in the amp.
    • I’ll include all of these rear tubes in this sale
• Also included are a pair of Raytheon 5654 6AK5W tubes (to roll for the driver/input/front tubes)
• I’m also including three other drive/input tubes, JAN-GE 5654W ones, which I purchased from thetubestore.com

Massdrop x Airist R-2R DAC: $225 SOLD
I’m the original owner of this DAC. I purchased it in August 2018 and it was delivered in June 2019. It served as my DAC until early in 2021 when I upgraded to my Bifrost 2.

• there’s a conspicuous chip in the paint on the front panel (see the top-left corner)
• the DAC comes with its original box as well as the shipping box
• I can’t find the original USB cable; I’ve included a different one

Schiit Audio Fulla 2: $30 SOLD
I purchased this little guy in December 2016, when it first came out. It’s in great condition.

• it has a nice, tight and smooth volume pot and is decent when it comes to channel matching at low volumes (for a device at this price, that is)
• it comes with the manual and I’ll include a USB cable
• I don’t have the original box for it

Astell&Kern Jr.: $85 SOLD
I purchased this DAP used in June 2020 and haven’t used it much because I preferred the Sony ZX2 I bought soon afterwards. I put about 75 hours on it. It’s in very good, perhaps even excellent condition cosmetically. I don’t see any blemishes or flaws, and the screen is free from scratches.

• it comes with the original packaging, USB cable, blue leather case, and a couple of screen protectors
• there are also a couple of plastic Micro SD card slot covers, one installed, the other in the packaging
• the DAP’s battery is still pretty good: I tested it by playing FLAC/ALAC music files non-stop and illuminating the screen only occasionally, when checking how far the battery had gone down, and the battery lasted for over eight hours.
