The purpose of this thread is to get to know one another through our musical preferences. Some of the best friendships I've made on SBAF have been with those of similar musical tastes, from the bland to the unorthodox.

Please list three to five types of music that you enjoy and embed an example of each. Bonus marks if you let us know a musical genre new to you that you'd like to explore.

    Only one post per user

Randos and Acquaintances are encouraged to participate. I don't think anyone is going to throw a spanner at you here. Post without fear!

I'll let someone else kick this off as I need to head out for a while.

There is a deutch gramophone collection with the best classicals according with the century. You can find it in Tidal: the history of classical music. Very good to enjoy and learn

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music so going to list the 5 genres I've been listening to for the last couple weeks.

    Metal - Epica
    Rock - Pink Floyd
    Electronic - Daft Punk
    Indie Folk - Daughter
Synth Pop - Chvrches (just started listening to them this week after a friend played the first album for me)

Just started listening to the last two genres over the last couple months so I'm going to see how far those rabbit holes go.

Can any of you ambient guys recommend me some more music like Boards of Canada and Biosphere. I love ambient electronic but am not looking for a beat. Woodwind / string / flute sounds are a plus :) Minimal drums please its mostly for my morning yoga practice.

Don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for but check out Bonobo if you're not already familiar.

I am quite eclectic regarding music.

    Metal: Metallica,Iron Maiden

Alt-Metal & Progressive Rock: Tool, Animals As Leaders, King Crimson

Pop (includes R&B, Soul & Funk): Daft Punk, Carly Rae Jepsen, Gorillaz

    Instrumental Electronic: Tycho, Bonobo, Emancipator

    Rock: Kyuss, QOTSA, The Hives

    What needs more attention...

    Instrumental Jazz & Classical Music:
lacking, since I often do not have enough time to properly explore styles and artists.

    Latin-American/European music:
I would like to get into Latin Jazz and other music related to that. Needs more time. There is more than Los Van Van.

Check out Teen Daze, Hammock, and Brambles (thank you @DigMe !). They are all slower/more mellow than Boards of Canada and Bonobo though. Older albums from Tycho also fits the bill (of minimal drums), like Past Is Prologue. Happy listening!

Crap I must've edited this like a dozen times by now adding notes and catching typos. Sorry!

    ******

Sounds like fun! Here are five songs I currently love to death. Note that this list changes VERY frequently, and is very different from what I'd have posted just a couple years ago. Hope you enjoy them though!

This is a "weird" guilty pleasure. I've been a fan of Emilie Autumn since a coworker introduced me to her; I was listening to Epica's Feint (another song I love) on speakers and coworker thought I'd be into her. She has some... pretty unconscionable ways of marketing herself using mental health, but the music is cool:

This one just makes me wanna dance, it makes me feel alive!

I got into this band because of someone on SBAF posting the group's cover of Bittersweet Symphony in the "What are You Listening To" thread, and have been a massive fan ever since. Hannah Reid has one hell of a voice:

This is a remnant of my tastes from a few years back. Final guitar solo still sometimes makes me cry, and I mean that quite literally; I'm an emotional bastard who gets teary eyed and sometimes even bawls watching anime:

Lastly, I've been a fan of Postmodern Jukebox since I read an article about their rendition of The Strokes's Someday back in 2015, and while the Cristina Gatti cover remains one of my favourites, this cover by Puddles has been an instant favourite since it was first published online! It helps that this is closer to my vocal range, and I can (kinda) sing it (poorly, haha):

    Ramble over :p

    P.S.
Frankly I have no idea how to classify some of these genres. I just get songs I like, and if I like enough songs off an album, I get a digi copy, or a CD if I really like them, haha. Had I not limited this to five songs there'd probably be some Sinatra tracks on here, as well as Beatles, Evanescence, Paramore, Linkin Park, or Led Zep.
