Gungnir USB Gen 5 board vs Yggdrasil Board

New Friends - I've just bought a Gungnir Multibit from a good friend - with a dead USB input. (Known issue). I've noticed there's a Gen 5 card from a Yggdrasil on Ebay. Are they the same card? The price is right - just a little more than the shipping to California for a Unison upgrade. Might hold me for a minute (I'm a Spdif/Optical user for the moment anyhow).

Also - for fellow travelers - how hard is it to reseat the lights on the Gungnir? I've watched a few videos - but it's hard to see!

But to answer your question, no they're not the same card. Gungnir's USB input is a special case so it has to go back to Schiit for the Unison USB upgrade. Jason explains here: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...-multibit-impressions.158/page-49#post-279150

What I'm asking tho (perhaps unclearly) is are the G5 USB cards the same between the two? I own the Gungnir with a dead USB port - There's a Yggdrasil G5 card for sale on Ebay that might bring the USB on this unit back from the land of flightless birds....

 

Most likely Gen. 5 USB cards are different and vary by the model. You would better ask Schiit directly and see what they say. Also it is not clear what you mean by "known issue". I owned two Gungnirs in the past and never had any issue with USB. It would be better to check the whole unit by a Schiit technician.

 

Known issue meaning my friend did not sell this to me without mentioning that issue. He's under the impression it took a static discharge during install… On careful inspection… The usb card does connect and does work but I'm getting a little static "click" to my speakers every 20 seconds or so randomly. I may end up upgrading to unison… But I'm trying to control cost a little bit on this upgrade-waiting to hear back from California on whether that card would be compatible – $70 is a nice cheap fix. I appreciate your help and attention!

 

from discussions on this site I'd say with high probability cards are not interchangeable. As alternative you can use other inputs, there is plenty info on this site about possible options.
