@sphinxvc haha dude, how'd you get your hands on a modded 650 again? You just keep coming back to them haha!

For those who don't know, I bought his old modded pair and the rest is history. Pretty much sold all my gear and started building around the 650. Months later, still no regrets selling those planars.

Great job continuing to spread the 650 love. I'm hoping many more members see that they're the real deal.

Lol, I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many pairs of HD6XXs I've gone through over the years.

I've got it in my head that the pair I sold you sound better than the pair I recently modded. Probably untrue but who knows. Exact same mods, except I used a quarter for the front cut out on yours and a nickel on mine. I guess maybe those 3mm could make a difference.

Btw @Merrick what do you think? Are you comparing them to stock?

In a pinch I could lend someone my [slightly modded] 650. I also have an X2 and 325e I could lend though I suspect most people are already familiar

My stock pair is already on it's tour around the country, @Tim Thomas should receive it today or tomorrow. But if said Friend wanted to hop in we could add them to the short list, I don't mind

The package was received. However, I am out of town for work until Wednesday. I plan to listen Thursday - Sunday and will have them shipped out on Monday. Sorry for the delay.

I'm comparing them to my Dyanamat modded HD600's. I really like these. I thought they would be too warm for me but I'm starting to wonder if too warm is even possible for me at this point. I will do some more listening tonight but I may soon be in the market for a modded HD650. Damn it. :)

Prior to receiving the modded 650, I was worried most about them being "too warm", since I've listened to my friend's stock versions. Needless to say, the tonality is perfect on the modded pairs. So spot on, I'm not lusting over any more headphones.

It was nice attending Canjam and leaving with a smile on my face... that what I have is enough.

    hello,

getting very excited (if both the modded and the stock show up close to each other maybe i can convince MrsForBin that she actually likes Sennheisers!)

How long is each person holding on to theirs for? I don't want to hog the modded but damn it sounds so good!

Glad you guys are enjoying the modded pairs.

I would say ship out to Drforbin by next Tuesday.

While I'm enjoying the modded 650 immensely, when I switch back to my 600 it feels more tonally "right" to me. Both are exemplary cans and both do more right than wrong. I'm going to do some more listening but my initial impressions of thinking I might want to swap out the 600 for the 650 may have been overestimated.

I agree. I listened to the stock HD650 most of the day comparing it to my 15 year old HD580 and found the HD650 to sound congested compared to the HD580.

Congested is a good word for it. After more listening sessions, I've decided definitively that the HD600 is my can of choice. They're both great cans, and I think anyone could be happy with one or the other, but I'm just a little bit happier with the 600.
