HD800 "French Mod" aka "SuperDupont Resonator"

I found Axel Grell's presentation of the HD 800S when they were announced to be surprisingly modest, as he simply said that they were "a little bit better" than the HD 800. I like the precision of what they did by using a resonator, as I've found that the felt mods weren't a unilateral improvement.

 

Just stick in a acoustic absorber,
and paint it black.

Add a balanced cable,
and your done. .

Oh, the rin choi analysis ...
(I was already wondering who else said that hole was the cause of the resonance)
He used a driver that was super peaky to begin with and simply poked a hole in there . The only thing we can really see is that "the high frequency resonances are shifted downwards".
Marv's raw driver measurements show that the driver is virtually free of resonances (super smooth FR), if slightly bright.

 

It looks like the resonance peak is the result of the center hole*
Edit ok it's not according to Marv's raw driver measurements. .
So it's the headphone design.
But I am thinking structural damping could help..
Maybe the reason for the solid heavy piece of metal around the driver...

Edit:
If the resonances are shifted downwards,
Maybe they can be shifted back upwards with structural damping. .
I know Easier said than done..

Very nice but I still think you're charging too little! Haha. If you charge Euro 10 you can hire a cute french girl to do all the work for you while you sit back and sip that famous red bordeaux.

Maybe for the next major release?

Made a set tonight. Really almost no time for listening with other stuff going on today, but a quick impression:

Stock, pre-mod - good sound but something is irritating my ears, sharpness
Post-mod - ahhhh, that's better. No irritation, great sound.

Very rushed impressions, but this is both subtle-ish and much better all at once
