Head Fi update, full blown advertisement site

It makes me wonder if Jude is now fully embracing his Zeos personality, whereas HF overtly becomes an ad-farm and HF TV videos are being made with a bouncing camera...

 

I hate that site even more now. My blood pressure is up. It's been a stressful week at work so I may do full on dickhead mode and go for the ban.

 

I can't even log in. What a mess.

 

I'm calling it. Five years from now...HF TV episode..."the HF community has responded incredibly well to our new format (cha-ching) and we are now rolling out a new super duper (ad ridden) format to be sure that we bring you all the wonderful content that you so love."

 

It's been pretty slow here on the boards lately. This thread isn't surprising.

I just read the latest @schiit chapter on my phone. It was relatively pain free (and a good read). I just keep a tab open in his TOC and check for updates periodically. Don't think I'll be going back for much more, other than UAPP bugs.

And I can't seem to find any functionality for remembering read/unread posts. Am I being dense or is this no longer supported?

 

I can't log in on the front page, but I can if I am somewhere else, like the classifieds.

I had the same problem. Then finally got the password reset link. There isn't anything about the new format that is better.

While I do not like the loss of many well used features, and it definitely should have been in beta, there is no good way to do a cut over like this. Could it have been done better? no doubt. I'm not going to go into the ways if could have been done better, and I really really do not recommend anyone do that here. I'm just saying that we all agree the cut over wasn't smooth. No one likes the huge colorful ads. Login is problematic. Lots of features were lost.

 

They just roll out the new system and save money by letting the members there alpha test the site for them. This is consistent with the overall behavior and shouldn't be surprising to anyone paying attention.

 

LOL, I just checked the new HF site. So bad it's funny. So much functionality lost. It's going to take months for them to figure the back end of that new system and fix everything. If I had done a site transition like that at my job, I'd be fired. I'd probably be sued for loss of productivity and revenue as well.

So, why'd they switch platforms? I seem to recall something about huddler having issues, but can't recall where I read that.

Also... is the new site XenForo based? A lot of the elements seem familiar somehow.

 

When I switched to SBAF, it took me quite some time to get used to the interface. To the tune of days, maybe weeks. Now though I prefer SBAF to the old HF.

Ads aside, those SBAF'ers who bash the new HF should recall that HF now uses the same XenForo software as SBAF uses... The immediate port was bound to have breakages, but I imagine that many of these will quickly be resolved and most of the more useful functionality will be exposed for easy access in due time.

 

I too prefer this site to the old HF. I also much prefer this site to the new HF. Just because they use the same ingredients doesn't mean you will get the same result. This site is well executed. HF is poorly executed and is full of ads. Yuck!
