Assuming the outer cup dimension would fit a fostex baffle I can certainly mess around with these cups if I can find them OEM on aliexpress or whatever (anyone have a link?).

Without the woody R10 baffle and those tuned ports, I'm not really sure how this design could achieve the hallmark cup effect the R10 was known for. The shape of the cups is only one part of the equation. Do we know anything about the dynamic driver used?

One could source an old Denon/Fostex/EMU ($200-400), swap to TH900 drivers ($250), and buy OEM cups ($5???), mod a bit, and I can almost guarantee a better result could be achieved than whatever BS target HFM was aiming for. I'm not sure why you'd want the R10 tuning, that wasn't really their strong suit. Just the well implemented decay profile, which could be just as present with a less shitty bottom end, less sizzly highs, less lean mids.

150% agreed. That's my takeaway for R10, too, although my audition based on bass-light ver.

Wanna snag a mint (MDR-)Z1R in the used market and send it to him.. then see what would happen. I kinda surmise Z1R has very good decay profile, too. More up to date tech drivers. And sleeker designs. A few serious deal breaking problems in tonal balance and highs. Knowing how he handled th900, we may expect very good results.

Aren't those pics simply exploded perspective views from the right earcup to the left earcup?

Looks like HFM is doing a Monoprice R10.

Given the lack of choices when it comes to high end closed headphones, I'd love to hear these at some point. Looks overpriced but the market niche definitely exists. Stellia, ZMF, hd820, maybe some of the limited Audio Technica releases, not much else.

And the e-penis battle continues..... Why do people care about their e-penises? I'm always happy that I have a really tiny e-penis, because being a "tough" Audio Company Guy is a sure way of getting new customers, not.

I have a feeling that the profit margin is going to be 60% new,and then 40% off in a few months after release with crappy QC.

I didn't know that the exploded views I posted were meant to be some kind of Rorschach test. ;)

My bet is more like 75 %, as most of the tech (materials, parts, procedures, ...) is to be rehashed from the other products. I see nothing outstanding, except for those outsourced 5 USD cups.

You know how long it took for me to find a schlong at the same angle as the expanded headphone cup view?

(Like I did to win that Photoshop contest a while back, also hifiman related)

C'mon, with that wierd-ass cup design at the end, and that exploded stretched out view of the parts, no one else was thinking about the audio schlong? TBH, I am curious about this headphone, the dynamic driver version. I don't think planars will work with the cup and baffle design, but those who have heard altered Sony R10s know that the sound can be good, and a large part of this good is the cups. I'm not big fan of the HFM headbands though.

Then of course, why not get a Drop X00 and add the cups to it. Does Drop still sell X00s?

I'm guessing it is even higher. Above 90%. All the raw materials and labors are in China. I have seen how cheap they can produce goods.
