I've got an unmodded HE-500 with fucus-a pads if you want to measure those on your new setup, Marv.

IME, the HE 4 and the HE 6 benefit the most from power/stereo amps... I may have missed this but is the 4 as inefficient as the 6?

I think I know why I kept these two...my JVC integrated receiver lent some heft to the bass which made both these HPs very enjoyable to listen to...

    Great work !

But the HE5LE is still missing :)

@Koth Ganesh : the HE-4 is by far less inefficient that the HE-6.

The HE-5LE is the only one that I haven't spent a long period of time with. I also don't have measurements for it. My impressions of the HE-5LE were very positive. I'd probably place it just under the HE-6/5 and it seemed easier on the ears to me (better frequency response).

Of the classic HFM headphones, I think the HE-5LE has the most reasonable frequency response.

I picked up a pair for cheap. I think @ohhgourami's HE-6 mods may translate well.

Code-X is one of those headphones that you'd have to pry from my dead fingertips. It's that good!

I owned the HE5LE last year and compared it extensively to the HE-6 I had on loan. As much as I loved the HE5LE, i definitely think the high mids was a bit too muted for my tastes. the HE-6 conveys a bit more emotion in that range. Surely the price is some brightness but everyboy knows brightness does not bother me that much as long as it's clean.

HE-4 and 5LE are headphones I still think to purchase again but the HE-6 with Jason's mods is probably more what I would be after if I wanted an ortho.

I definitely love All those classic HFM headphones .

OMG, what have we done? We've officially created a "classic" category for HIFIMAN headphones!

Especially given that razordogaudio has a steady supply priced at $589 rated as “CUSTOMER RETURN - FULL WARRANTY - 100% COMPLETE - 9.8/10 - Approx 25 hours burned in” on Ebay.

Thanks for posting the measurements with the Focus-A Pads! Nice to know that the differences I'm hearing are borne out by tests.

Concur on modded HE-6. I have never heard anything hit so hard while maintaining a refined, audiophile-grade experience. Hell, I haven't heard anything hit this hard period, and I'm still running it out of -- get this -- a Geek Out 450! I'm terrified of what might happen when my speaker amp comes in...

Just like when I see people put their pets up on the local classifieds as "pre loved"...

I read this differently than I should have.

Can someone open a window? I feel warm.

Would you place the HE-6 under the HE-X/HE-K?

Out of those which did you personally preferred the most?

I love my he500s with hm5 pads. Based on sound alone, i'd have a hard time choosing between them and my hd 600s. Of course, I know the hd600s will work forever, so with gun to head i'd have to go that direction.
