Just testing the waters, not 100% sure.

Comes with stock power cord, stock tubes, plus extra NOS Mullard rectifier and extra NOS RCA driver tube. Both tubes noticeably improved the performance of the amp.

Would be looking at $1750 shipped for friends and contributors.

At this point I'd rather take it just so you can buy it back later if you come to later regret your decision.

If I ever thought I could sneak that in the house, I'd be all over it. But my wife would definitely notice the blue...

You'd better contact @ChaChaRealSmooth and kindly ask him about a short tour to his place (TX-LA isn't terribly far), where you can actually compare SR1a+JotR vs Verite+Starlett, along with Yggdrasil GS. Maybe you can carry your bifrost 2 to perfect the experiment. Good liquor as a gift can make every such communication smoother as usual.

IMHO selling your amp doesn't seem to get higher priority when you don't exactly know your expected outcomes in either way.

Good suggestion, but a trip to LA isn't feasible in the near future as I have too much going on right now.

You know, when I was a kid/teen, I had no money for music. The best I could do was scrape a few bucks together to buy a few CDs, so I had to be very selective of what I bought. The soundtrack to E.T., the Batman Forever Soundtrack (as corny as it was back then), one Bone Thugs and Harmony CD, one Busch CD, etc. etc. I didn't have very many, but the passion for the music, as unrefined as my tastes were back then, was what made the act of listening so pleasurable. And that continued into my young adulthood.

At a certain point, the HOBBY, came into the picture. Suddenly you were faced with not just music, but playback systems. An almost endless number of choices and combinations for how one would curate their sonic signature. And this sonic signature started to become a kind of personality trait.... like being punk, or rock, or hip hop... wearing bandanas, or cowboy boots or ripped jeans or baggy pants, or whatever. I always hated that shit... to me those people were weak, easily brainwashed, desperate to belong for fear of having to get to know themselves (or being made fun of for not "belonging"). I never bought into trends in that sense.

I love music, but I f'ing loathe the hobby... I loathe the culture surrounding the hobby. I loathe the egotism, the posing, the snark, the long winded strawman arguments, the desire to make people feel like shit because they don't do what you want them to do. It's the same stupid, juvenile schoolyard bullying tactics I had to navigate growing up. The players and ages change, the feelings remain the same. For some bizarre reason, as a kid, I thought growing up would mean an end to this weird tribalism, that it was just a result of immature kids who don't know any better. I was wrong.

So here I am, excited to try the Raal SR1a, and explore an aspect of the hobby I've always enjoyed (clear, fast, distinct musical lines, lifelike reproduction, etc...something I tried to get with the HD800 but for various reasons couldn't) and I get hit with a sudden wave of anxiety because a bunch of people don't like what I'm doing. And then it really hit me like a ton of bricks... the only reason I owned any of this shit was because of sites like this. Owning the DNA stuff or ZMF was the ripped jeans, stupid bandanas, baggy pants, whatever. The HOBBY. The CULTURE. And then I realized with equally stark panic, that I barely enjoyed music anymore... not in the way I used to anyway, when I didn't care what approved gear I was rocking. There was no hobby, there was just music. It was only by confirming that I owned the gear the internet herd approved of, was my musical enjoyment genuine. Hey, this Talking Heads album sounds great through my [insert whatever gear you currently own]. It is all ultimately to satisfy the herd.

And this is entirely my fault.

So I'm selling my DNA Starlett. If you wanna buy it, PM me. Otherwise, I don't need your criticisms. Especially from chronic gear cyclers who really have no business lecturing people about being "wise" with their selling/buying habits. Maybe getting the Raal will get me back to the place where the gear can disappear and I can just enjoy music like I used to. Right now with Starlett/Verite, I don't feel like that's happening.

lol why is it that every time @ColtMrFire posts something, people seem to go nuts? Leave the man alone! trying new gears is part of the fun. We've all cycled gears at one point.

Gear cycling is fine as long as you have a good reference point like HD650.

Also I would love to have @ColtMrFire on my gear-cycling team. I'll make you vice president of my club. Don't let the haters get to you and let us know how SR1a works out for you.

If this post was more straightforward "FS" ad, then I'd might leave a simpler comment like "GLWS" pressing 'like' if price was lower than fair. For some reasons, I knew Colt was on the fence -- at least until last night. I love the idea of crazy spending and irrational spinning, that's one way I've been enjoying this hobby. I might be a little more conservative when giving others my 2 cents.

PS. Btw am I eligible to apply for the sbaf gear cycling club? lol

    Hey President,

I've been waiting a while for my tags. I already paid the initial $5 processing fee.

    @ColtMrFire You got a PM

To everyone else - no, I'm not buying the amp.
