I'll keep this short for those who might have been following my saga with the fake $43 ie800 I got from ebay. I was so curios that I ordered a real ie800 to test the difference.

first, I found out who makes the fake "diy" ie800s, it's a Chinese company called tennmak. They use the same driver in a bunch of other iems so you can buy those instead of the fake ie800

in summary the real ie800 sounds more natural. The tennmak ie800 is clearly more v shaped and distorted. The tennmak is just a lot of 3k-6k plus a major 80 to 100hz bass boost.

the tennmak ie800 sounds more fun and clearer (because treble boost) for some songs, but I feel like it's wrong to enjoy it. like enjoying junk food. also, the tennmak is more likely to sound irritating (but it's pretty well balanced so that's rare). The tennmak was also a little more fatiguing. been listening to the real one for a few hours and don't need to take it off. The tennmak would sort of sound worse over time.

this is not the first time a cheaper headphone has sort of sounded better than a good one. I started with the shure srh940 and at first I wasn't sure the hd800 sounded better, but I eventually decided it did.

there are numerous other examples of v shaped headphones sounding better than technical superior ones in some ways in my history. a tough question for for those of us who listen to pop music. I always force myself to use the technical superior headphone but maybe I shouldn't. I hear similar things from average consumers the first time they try a really good headphone.

I hope this journey was informative for some

Don't come back. You are garbage.

66.87.66.120 on Sprint PCS. I'm seeing if we can get more specifics.

    This takes some real dedication.
Perhaps if OP posted a side by side picture of the fake one and the real one(with different serial number on box?), I may believe that his intension isn't bad.

Go find the original post from his first account, it was definitely sketchy as hell.
