HEDD headphone head engineer quoted explaining some of the tech and says they will release distortion curves, etc. (Could not easily find original post)

I mention the HEDD in this thread because I was reading about RAAL in HF thread and saw mention of HEDD comparison and assumed they were similar technologies but I was wrong, sorry. I'll be more careful when posting and include references as needed.

Bass king, hands down the most feral, ruthless, bottomless low end I've ever heard. Good enough to steel.
Heavy as hell with a massive clamp somewhat mitigated by the tick pads. Vocals were muddy with a weird tone but treble sounded surprisingly natural with detail with finesse.
Around 86dB sensitivity so could be powered by normal amps.

This is one I'll have on my watch list.

The low level detail and dynamics out of these are terrifyingly realistic
Kick drums smack and then move into decay consistently, easy to tell apart from a snare drum
Staging like a good headphone, similar seperation as hd800 without the diffuse feel
The seperation isn't an unnatural difference in tone, but actual layering between instruments.
Recorded classical music is listenable due to the upper treble extension and seperation
The staging is in front of you.
Trying to listen for tonal issues, but I'm out of practice.
The timbre is on the faster side but the decay pans out slower than the hd800.
Similar mid tone to hd580, less warm and the treble extension is quite obvious, the upper mids and presence aren't as emphasised.
I heard the "less resolving" prototype, although I much prefer the realism on this. I find the resolution negligible, but the grip on the base and the additional 2-3k create this sense of dynamics and realism that's really engaging.

My canjam impressions, I really like these.

Hedd has released for preorders, at least they kept their word on pricing: https://www.headphones.com/products/heddphone?sscid=11k4_24asn&
A handsom brute if you ask me.
I should be getting a pair for demo early next week. Have to say I'm really exited to hear them in my own system and complete the three horsemen.

Reached out to see if we can get the HEDD for demo. Worst case scenario, can give them a listen at NAMM show in two weeks.

These cost more than a pair of the Hedd 07 monitors.

718 grams is over a pound and a half on your noggin. I might be able to put up with that for an hour.

Rooting for this to succeed for no other reason than reversing the trend of "TOTL" headphone pricing on crazy pills. I don't think under 2K is still a compelling price point if speakers are an option, but still a hopeful development if it's competing with the likes of Utopia, LCD-4, or even SR1A.

It's still on crazy pills. 1700 bucks gets you a pair of HEDD 07.

This puts things into a much needed perspective. The Heddphone uses a modified AMT tweeter to play music, whilst with the 07 you get a simpler tweeter, a woofer, cabinetry and electronics. I'd bite if it was Focal Elear price.

P.S. On the other hand - price is a part of the marketing. Some people won't take you seriously without a serious price despite what you actually bring to the table value wise.

Please let's not start a speaker vs heddphones cost debate. I, like many don't care about or are unable to use speakers, and the release of this headphone doesn't invalidate the option of buying any of the existing HEDD speakers.

I'm fine paying HEDD for the idea of modifying an AMT tweeter and custom magnet for headphone use, R&D isn't free and neither is the cost of innovation and risk of a new technology. How much is the aluminium foil in Raal again?

That’s because you lack self confidence to use speakers appropriate to your setup and situation or to stick to reasonably priced headphones that are still just as paltry an imitation of speakers as ridiculously priced headphones. You know deep down this is true. Otherwise you would not be considering purchasing headphones that cost more than a company’s much more complex loud speakers and giving me a line of crap about R&D. The headphones alone cost more than a pair of HEDD’s two-way speakers. The HEDD phones plus the amplification most will drive them with will cost more than a pair of HEDD’s small Type 20 three-speakers. If you think any headphone is going to be able to compete with something like that, you’re delusional. If you don’t think you can use something like the HEDD 20 on suitable stands in most rooms at reasonable volume levels in the same desk where you would use an 1800 dollar, almost one kilogram pair of headphones, then you’re just as delusional.

Seems to have been a lot of work put in to a) customize the driver for headphone use (the folds are different than on the speakers), b) get the earpads right and c) make the thing comfortable given the massive driver weight.

Not sure how that compares time wise to the R&D for a new speaker variant.

At $1900, the HEDDphone is less than half the price of many flagship headphones and IEMs. Can you blame them for pricing it at what the market will bear? Some even consider it a bargain for the performance and hope that it will bring sanity to the pricing of high end headphones.
