Got iPhone 14. Haven't used iPhone in a while. How do I disable those super loud annoying notification sounds when I am on a call. It's like I will be on a call, and then suddenly get hit with a super loud bong making me fear my iPhone. Used to have Pixel 6 which muted notifications when I was on a call.

I know I can flip the mute switch, but is there a way to do this automagically?

I think you can set a focus automation to turn on for specific app usage. Turn it on for the "Phone" app and disable notifications temporarily then.

iOS is weird AF TBH. It works but it's clearly optimized for single threaded life. Things like thinking focus is a substitute for personal containerization of work and personal profiles is stupid. The fact you need to rely on MDM for a lot of basic stuff is mind boggling. Juggling startup life and being an active parent/partner is unnecessarily difficult for some reason.

I wish Steve Jobs were still around. He would have fired someone on the iPhone team the second the loud sound interrupted his phone call with Tim Cook.

How does Android handle this? Can you have two entirely different profiles on your phone that you can switch back and forth between?

Just to let you know about the Focus feature - I tried doing this to set the Focus to automagically kick in when using the "phone app". The kicker...? the iOS treats the actual call session as something outside of the "phone app". Meaning, as soon as you connect the "call in progress" is characterized by some other label or session, and the Focus automatically turns off because you jumped into something else. And once your call is done, and puts you back to the keypad/phone app default, THEN it kicks back on.

TLDR: Setting Focus for the Calls App does not work, simple major flaw that Apple was high/drunk/stoopid and completely missed this.

Unless I am missing something, I'd love to be wrong about this and someone correct me, because I'd love for my ears and hearing not to be dicked over while I am on calls.

I think the mute button is you friend is this case. You can also turn off sound notifications app by app, if you get a lot from many apps and just don't need sounds for every notification.

Not sure if this is Samsung specific or an Android feature but there's a setting to disallow notifications during calls:

I have a lot of complaints about Samsung, but they work well enough as daily devices. And yes I have the One Missed Call chime as my ringtone.

    ^ That's Samsung / Google / Android specific.

I really want to go back to the Pixel, but I would miss iMessage. Apple Pay, and the ability to track my family. Dislike the text scaling in the iPhone too in Chrome. Siri is retarded. Will probably get another line/phone for business and have both iOS and Android.

It can be fully containerized. You can have a work and a personal profile and it's clearly delineated which is which.

From the lens of myself as an iPhone user, this is the largest drawback of iOS today. I’m still carrying two phones with me and it’s 2023. I really hope to see this in iOS 17 or whatnot.

With the current implementation of my company’s MDM, I can run everything I need to from a work profile in Android without the risks of random service desk analysts making an error that violates my privacy or that accidentally wipes my personal device.

    Unbelievable oversight by Apple.

There are a number of things in iOS that are very annoying and seem quite obvious to me but I can't send feedback reports that no one reads for every single one...

So I’ve had this talk with @purr1n and others: truthfully, I don’t see anything in iOS that actually is a killer except for iMessage and that’s an artificial gate at this point.

I can manage my kids android devices on my iPhone or android devices.

Google Pay works great everywhere I go.

Truthfully, I personally don’t give a shit about iMessage but I do appreciate the ubiquitous depth sensing that I can use to provide new diagnosis tools for healthcare providers at work.

I had the iPhone 3G and then switched to Android as iOS didn’t let me tinker as much as I wanted. I had various Android phones until two years ago, then switched to an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I’m satisfied with it. My main reasons for the switch were long-term support with OS updates (I’m over constantly switching phones and intend to keep this one for at least five years, probably longer), and privacy.

I’m a privacy nerd, I don’t trust Google at all. If you root Android phones, it’s possible to make them much better in regard to privacy than iOS, but that’s a lot of work, I’m getting older, and I don’t like spending time on device tinkering as much as I did ten years ago. Nowadays, I just want my stuff to work. I don’t trust Apple, either, but at least they do a lot more right than Google does. It isn’t perfect at all, iPhones are personal surveillance devices as well as Android phones, but at least a bit less so.
