Is there an iem on the market for a picky basterd like me?

no, great recommendation I loved the FR and tonality. But comfort and BA weirdness got in the way.

    Gotcha.

On the EDC3, does it have a knowles damper in the nozzle like Westones do?

You can tame the upper mids/lower treble if it does. If it has a brown filter go to a green (or a green go to a red).

I have an extra pair of green or red filters if you want to try them.

I seem to recall reading horrid things about those monoprice planar IEMs, but I don’t have links because it was some time ago.

I discovered a couple more iem’s that may fit into the neutral category.

    Pears SH-3

this review has me interested. And the fact that the reviewer says that neutral doesn’t mean bright and how that’s a common misconception makes me have done trust for the review despite my skepticism about Headfonia. I don’t know enough about them.

    https://www.headfonia.com/review-pears-sh-3/

they make a universal version. SH-3U

    https://www.p-ear-s.ch/shop/sh-3u/

they seem to admit to rolling off the sub bass though in this image. Makes the SH-2U look interesting too!

    Empire Ears - Wraith

    https://empireears.com/products/wraith-universal-1

    11 Drivers, 2 Low, 3 Mid, 2 High, 4 Super-High, 5 Way Crossover !!!!

but 4 of those are electrostatic drivers. And they cost 3,500$ !!!

but their description of the tuning plus the electrostatic drivers really has me interested.

they mention adding a touch of emphasis on the lower midrange but all else is neutral. Kind of my ideal tuning.

    loaner tour!

I got the Tin HIFI P1 a while ago. Really great FR and tonality but smeared instrument separation and rough treble. I sent them back. Looking forward to the P2!

Oh my bad, I recommended them to you. I tried them with a decently powerful Dac/amp (e1da powerdac v2) with PEQ and felt it was good

    Ever check for the dampers?

To give you an idea of the FR change, I tried all the ones I have on my UM Pro 20 on my new diy measurement setup.

I loved the FR and tonality of the UMpro10 but it just has a very BA sound to it.

not at all! I’m glad I heard them. I love orthos. It was a cool experience and I’ll definitely be checking out the P2!

I meant did you check the EDC3 nozzle for a damper, not the UM Pro 10.

A change, if it has one, could be what you need for it to match your preference.

    Oh, no I didn’t.

I first want to first try deeper insertion with silicone tips withthe EDC3. I think this whole time I haven’t been inserting deep enough. I kind of found a new level that doesn’t scare the shit out me like I’m going to puncture an ear drum.

I’ve been spoiled by some CA loaners. I’m going to have to own some somehow someday. They sound so good.

Another closed planar+dd hybrid iem is Obravo cupid. It has polarizing reviews though, measurements are all over the place.

I hate it just on principle. Orthos have great bass potential, much better than electrodynamics. If there’s one thing people correctly understand about orthos it’s this. If anything, put in a second ortho driver tuned lower. But a slow f'ing DD? f**k off

I get you, Manufacturers are just throwing everything they can and see what sticks tuning has become secondary

A Solaris with an ortho driver for bass would be cool
