Gilberto, thanks for the breakdown. One thing that needs to be mentioned: Jude has been going hard in Japan and can't figure out why no one gives a shit about HF and Canjam there. He sees the big community there and the sponsors and wants a piece of that pie. This is his attempt to try to get $$$ Sony money. The funny thing is, working with Sony quite a bit over the last 6 or so years, they will never waste advertising dollars on random forums.

They're not that small minded or shortsighted. Not even a tiny, itty bitty, really infinitesimal, teensy weensy, child-sized, Napoleonesque in stature, little bit.

Haha, I'm not sure but I did mention it to him again at the Wikia meet, too, that measurements are really not representative of how something sounds like until you have some impressions and context with regards to who's hearing and measuring said headphone.

I used to preach the same thing over at Head-fi a long time ago (back when Chang was around) but it went way over some folks' heads. It's either the purely subjective folks (don't believe in measurements) or the purely objective folks (O2 is da king!) and not much in between (or else the in-betweeners are all here now, I guess).

And I don't think trying to appeal to the purely objective crowd the way Jude is doing now is a good idea. They have Hydrogen and Computerphile and other such communities for that. Reddit?

Not too tight and not too loose.

How many times have I said this in respect to measurements?

What seems extremely disingenuous by Jude is that he had always taken a looser approach to headphones, until this, when he found an opportunity to be selectively too tight. No, Sony is not a sponsor; but I'm sure he'd like Sony to be one, or at least pay for more tables at CanJam so he can make more money.

This is the sad part about it all. Jude just wants a little bit of respect. But unfortunately, that ship has sailed long ago. Somehow, Jude's made enemies of, or at the minimum, turned away many high quality people with good ears and smarts. I don't know how he manages to do that. I mean, I'm way more a dick than him, discouraging people from coming here all the time, but the good quality people seem to keep coming. The fact is, almost everyone here would have loved to stay with HF if the environment there were more hospitable for people who actually had a clue. I would have been absolutely delighted to help Jude on the measurement path years ago, but he showed absolutely ZERO interest. I know Whitney (Rhythmdevils) urged Jude several times to highlight on the HF home page the CSD thread I started back in 2011: https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/headphone-csd-waterfall-plots.566929/

As it stands in 2017, Jude is supreme leader of the personal audio forum of 10,000 random impressions from 1000 random people. His full torso HATTS in a box lined with egg create foam and surrounded by a Faraday cage won't do anything to change this. In closing, I present you this 80s video from Erasure. Yes, I bought the LP back then and I still have it.

Cool. Been a while. Jude should do this more often so papa Marvey gets more traffic.

My lined-up quotes vanished. Some sort of techie-self-censorship --- or more likely, idiot user error. Please excuse: it's too near bed time to go find them again.

Someone said about a storm in headphone cup. Quite. Curiouser and curiouser are these things. But I no longer visit the neon-flashing Piccadilly Circus of headphones at all except to see what threads like this are about.

Somebody paraphrased Hey Jude, and I wanted to quote it because it was beautiful. Thank you @ Somebody!

And somebody mentioned the "We've been working on this for two years..." thingamibullshit. That was the point where I stopped reading Jude's headfi post. Come on! This is a corporate advertising ploy, that the engineers have been locked away in the cellar for decades until the Incredible New Thing was ready to break. And sell. And hope nobody else releases it the day before. OK, maybe it is even sometimes true, and maybe the manufacturing world needs to keep some developments under wraps until the day. Fair enough. Commerce. But... Call me completely deluded, but isn't Head-Fi supposed to be a sort of social-media thing (formerly known as forums, bulletin boards, and so on back in histroy). A Social thing... where people discuss new developments? Not a place where a guy (or two?) spend two secret years on the new thing with which to beat the competition.

OK. Completely deluded. That's me. Goes nicely with disillusioned.

I thought Jude's concerns might not be with the Z1R article itself, but with the closin lines of the subsequent article on the Audeze/Focal shootout.
    https://www.innerfidelity.com/conte...ame-adjustments-focal-utopia-and-audeze-lcd-4
So this might be more of a preemptive strike to defend future expensive crap by current sponsors, than merely trying to appeal to Sony.

Could be. But to me it seems Jude is mainly appealing to Sony.

Ultimately I think I personally dedicated a little too much attention to Jude's bullshit. It doesn't deserve it. I don't think the dude really knows what he is doing when it comes to technical stuff, and based on his all-positive impressions, he might be somewhat deaf, or conveniently deaf. Things have probably been this way for a long time now. So no big loss really.

I respect Jude's advice on audio gear in the same way that I respect dating advice from Ted Bundy.

OK. I couldn't resist. There you go. I fixed the Z1R. Marv's measurements totally suck. They overemphasize the mid-treble peak. In fact, the peak doesn't even really exist.

I think I would vote for conveniently or selectively deaf, as he seems to hear the ringing of the cash register just fine.

Much better Marv! I have the Z1R too and I don't hear this so-called peak that exists in @Marvey's original and Tyll's measurements! In fact, I've heard seventeen of these pairs, and they all sound the same. All perfect. I also did a sweep at home, and my pair is totally like Jude's pair. I think Tyll should send his pair to Jude. I bet Jude would show the us how Tyll's measurements are totally wrong. Bottom line is that the peak doesn't exist. I bet Tyll has learned from the Utopia debacle that this would be a great way to draw viewers to his site. Wow, that's totally low of Tyll! Disgusting!

And Tyll, I love these headphones. The problem is not owners like me. The problem is prospective consumers! What are they left to assume when they are told in no uncertain terms by no less an authority than yourself than the $2300 pair of headphones are junk? How dare you not worry about repercussions to Sony? Don't you know that companies must be protected at all costs and their products never criticized, even if they make missteps! You are a very bad person. Thank god that there are people like Jude who can now fight against indecent people like you! You should be ashamed!

@Rando Calrissian was just being ironic methinks

anyhow, the article read like passive aggressive intra-office memo. It seems as though Tyl is being discredited by way of gaslighting.

Unless HF acknowledge that their comp curve or protocols are flawed in due course, otherwise the said article serves as reassurance to manufacturers that HF could offer up alternative facts backed by timey-whymey sciency stuff using state of the art gear (un)calibrated to deliver "predictable" results.

When it comes to evaluating the role of reviews in discerning information about headphones, I like to draw a line of comparison to Roger Ebert film reviews. One of the most important attributes about those film reviews was not that I agreed with Roger Ebert on every single movie review, but that over time he built up a dependable track-record of how he evaluated film, and that perspective could provide insight through consistency (even if there were a certain number of outliers). Tyll has a consistent track record, and even if I don't agree with him on each of his reviews, his perspective is far more valuable than the monetary worth of his measurement rig.

This is about integrity not supremacy.

Oh boy! @gbeast careful about being so outspoken on HF, you might wind up having Jude as a follower! What a shame though, I used to be EXCITED about being Followed by JUDE, now the reality is he's seems to only be following those who are speaking again'st him...

still trying to steer the HF conversation back on track, I miss Head Fi... when I could spend a day talking about headphones, Daps and what tube sounded best! Almost all my favorite thread's are dead -.- and it's all front page drama... especially this last week

and @Tyll Hertsens and @New Reformation, I agree. I like that level of consistency I get with Tyll's reviews. I've seen some criticizing him for changing his thoughts on some headphones, which is moot asinine, if your not open to change and re-evaluating where you stand than how do you grow and learn. Still I read over a lot of your content @Tyll Hertsens and I appreciate your input. I appreciate having both his and Marvey, and Hands, and UltraBike and really every one's input! It's just a shame, Jude is trying to make his view the focal point on HF...

Wow...catching up with some stuff. I can't believe King/Emperor Jude bought a HATS and is trying to use it. I guess he is finally a believer in objective measurements now....as long as they are his own.

Sorry Jude, SUCK A DICK !!!

If anyone here has ever been to Japan, they would know Sony markets their headphone's/IEM's heavily there by product placement and local media/billboards/etc, not questionable American forum penis pumping.

Jude may try and make himself feel important, but in the grand scheme of things, he's a nobody to Sony.

Shit @Marvey! Did you also finally put the C.U.N.T. "in a completely lab-grade acoustic/vibration isolation enclosure" (THX like), and "an anti-vibration platform" to sit the C.U.N.T. comfortably "down to 4 Hz"?! f**k! Faraday-Cage!! Progress!!!

(I kid you not. Those are actual quotes from Jude's post here: https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/t...e-from-ifa-2016.818846/page-691#post-13547603.)

You know what, you are right. Jude was right all along.
