Not sure what their goal was,
but most if not all Fostex drivers are naturally inclined to be V shaped, or bassy for the lesser THX-00 series.
Anyways, despite the bass I was rather interested in the performance level and resolution.
I going to have to check your review site .

The TH900 is a strange one though. You can do almost anything to that driver, and it won't ruin the technicalities it seems like. Eudis ended up making my open-back modded TH900-driver'd headphones into a neutral and linear headphone.

Anyway, I got to hear these through my Soekris dac1541, IHA-1 and ZDS (through the dac1541 and the Gungnir Multibit.) @Mystic let me try them out at his house.

I think I got through half a song and immediately realized they weren't for me. Their mid-bass boost hides some subbass that I heard clearly through my Franken-TH900s and his Auteur. Also, being a v-shaped headphone, it has elevated treble. I tried it on the IHA-1 and ZDS, and couldn't get over the super-sharp cymbal crashes. I tried it out of the dac1541 thinking the damping effect was kicking in on the ZDS at least...but that didn't help. It just sounded sharper out of that amp.

It's not for me. Despite the elevated treble and good resolve/technical ability...it just sounded compressed at times. The other two biodynamics sounded a lot more dynamic to me, and even the Atticus I'm listening to now with Seude pads had more dynamics (to me anyway.)

That's just me though. I would pay $600-700 for these, but not asking price. I think there's too many things that outdo it in this price range, but I'm not a fan of V-shaped signatures.

I dont think there are too many things that out do it in its price range actually. I disagree with that. I also disagree with it not having as macro dynamics. The dynamic range isn't the best (actually mediocre) but it has good dynamics.

I think the asking price is fair but it definitely isn't the headphone for everyone. It grew on me and I play a lot of EDM with them. Probably the best EDM headphone out there. The TH900s are bested by this headphone on a few levels, maybe not the bass but these are easily more listenable and is right about at the same level.

BUT let me say that no one should buy a used pair until Klipsch gets there crap together. The warranty is voided. Now I have both cups cutting out when I move my head and Klipsch said I have to pay 450 per cup to replace the cups because they don't have the schematic out to their repair contractor. Well that sucks, if I ship it to them then I pay shipping back and forth but they don't even know if they can fix it yet. So I have my fingers crossed that they will be able to fix the headphones 4 months from now and I will just keep them.

Kinda slowly backing out of the hobby anyway and I think this one would be a good headphone to keep around for bass demanding music. Technically it is close to on the same level as the Eikon yet costs less. BUT the balance is not as good and at this point Id rather pay the extra bucks for a headphone that I can send in for a fixin if it breaks.

I have to agree w/ @gbeast on this. I really enjoyed the hp-3. The warranty issue thing is really ridiculous though. I wasn’t aware of that.
