Unless there is more interest shown fir DAPs I’m probably not going to try to get one of these. Because very few people signed up for the Mm6 Pro loaner and I have a good relationship with Shanling already.

if people show interest and sign up I would be happy to though. :)

I think what scared people off of the M6 Pro was the price. I did made a M3X thread here. I do believe the M3X is a great bang for your buck DAP that does more things right than a M6 Pro IMO.

only two comments haha. Are people on SBAF just not interested in DAPs? I thought there were a lot of DAP owners here. I don't understand the lack of interest. The AK daps are so much more expensive and that doesn't stop people.

    hello,

tl/dr: a loaner tour for DAPs would be greatly appreciated.

once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away. i suggested that SBAF have a loaner tour of kinda, sorta mid-priced DAPs. i still stand by that as i am currently locked into the iPod Classic multiverse due to having just about every accessory known to man for them in house. (a few JBL docks, an Apple dock [installed as a music server on my two-channel setup], a sh*t load of custom modified hard shell cases, portable amps, LOD cables [some of them acquired from kind members of this forum, y'all rox!], and a MrsForBin who does NOT want to learn a new user interface.)

each of us use flash memory modded iPods, and are quite happy doing so. large capacity, great battery life, light weight, the best user interface i know of for this kind of device.

i have a SONY NWZ-A17, but my lovely spouse hates how it sounds.

all that said, i am very well aware that the devices we own WILL become unfixable, and we will need to move on to something else. being able to sample other (current) DAPs may allow me to get the GYTW on board too.

the problem would be, managing multiple loaners. could they be sent out as a collection? how would the participants be able to load music they would like to sample onto the devices? would the loaner time need to be lengthened to accommodate comparisons?

i'm thinking i would love to have this kind of thing going, but the logistics would be a nightmare.

    cheers!

A stretch, but would be really cool to get a loaner of the grado rs1x. Would be interesting to get ears on the 50mm new X-series driver and layered wood cups, given the hemp sounded pretty good (we now know that was also a X-series driver).

p.s. If we do get a rs1x loaner or grado loaner, it would be good to get it terminated XLR with a 1/8 or 1/4 adapter, for maximum compatibility.

Also Grado RS2x and Grado f-pads please?

If RS2x was about $100 cheaper Id blind buy. And because Peerless drivers havent been in stock for a good long while for diy Grado I am tempted to fill spot with an actual Grado but need atleast RS2 level of resolution otherwise vintage ortho Yamahas are close enough (better and worse) and waaay cheaper. Also curious if RS2x is an improvement over RS2e. I really like Grado but cant live with the peaky treble. Hoping RS2x is an improvement. Seems Grado has learned from SBAF threads: RS2e + ttvj deluxe with more neutral response is better and sells (grado hemp)!

I'm talking to Grado now. They mentioned RS2X and RS1x a while back to me, just needed to follow up.

The safe bets now are SR325X or a bassier snappier transient sound or SR225X for something more flatter. Both the 325X and 225X use the F cushion, so expect them to be more normal, more similar to HD600/650, but with a little bit of Grado flair.

It's possible RS2X and RS1X may go for their more colored Grado sound. The question is how they will do it. The prior model RS1e was plenty midbass punchy, actually quite clean in the bass, and muted in the mid-treble - but with Grado upper mid flair and crunch.

@purr1n But what about RS2x with f-pads / ttvj deluxe?

Only impressions I could find so far for RS2x: This is stock vs RSe stock. User not so articulate but it seems to me that “more neutral” might apply based on description.

diyearphonelabs sells some “genuine” Grado drivers and claims Hemp driver is same as new 225x driver.

I messaged headphones.com a couple days ago to ask if they would have RS2x in stock and with any holiday deals. Headphones.com is usually the only place I see ever have discounts on new Grado (by way of discounted gift cards that work with Grado).

Anyone interested in a personal loaner of Snorry NM-1 headphones? These seem underexposed outside of Russia.

These are current hungry orthos so would need suitable amplification.

I picked up a pair of his new flagship so it would be an acceptable time for me to be without for some time.

Prefer to limit to long standing members with history of caring for others gear.

    https://snorryplanar.com/snorry-headphones-nm-1/

If there’s interest I can make a dedicated thread.

I'd love to hear impressions from established SBAF members about the new Geshelli amps, the E2 and the Archel2.5 X/XL. I'm more curious about the Archel because it's single ended and I'm happy with the cables I already have. But both would be awesome, so we could know if the E2 is worth it over the Archel2.5, X or XL.

It looks like there was talk of an iFi Neo iDSD loaner when that was first announced but as far as I can tell it never materialized? I’m still interested in a loaner on that, especially as they’ve added multiple filter options.

    I'll check this out! Thanks!

@ChaChaRealSmooth or @jexby would be the best people to ask for a loaner from iFI. They don't respond to my messages, I think I was overzealous in some of my posts ;) even though I like some of their products like the Micro BL line.

Can one of you reach out?

@Merrick and @rhythmdevils the Neo iDSD is with me at the moment. I'm sending it out to Marv first since I want him to get ears on it; I waited because I wanted to avoid the holiday shipping craze.

Loaner Tour suggestion: A selection of turntable mats. Buy them or have people donate them, I have multiple sitting around I'd donate including
Maybe have members here recommend another brand or two to purchase, send them around in a record shipper. Should be very cheap to ship & almost no insurance needed.

    Just a thought.
