    Stock S-12
These basically just sound too bright and lean and bass light and its hard without having a lot of experience to hear the potential in this incredible little driver. I had to modify them to really know for sure.

    The Mod
I drill holes into the back of the enclosure to vent the driver. Stock, there are two vents in the front and top of the enclosure which are damped. When the diaphragm moves, it created air pressure in front and behind the driver as it moves equally in both directions. So with this closed enclosure with 2 damped vents, the diaphragm is fighting resistance from this damped enclosure every time it moves, it is pushing against air pressure inside the enclosure that can't escape easily due to there only being 2 damped vents. This damps the driver, restricting excursion and tuning it upwards, giving you less bass and more treble. Venting the enclosure with holes in the back of the enclosure lets the diaphragm move more freely, giving it more excursion to produce more bass and less treble and it has the added benefit of letting the diaphragm move faster as well. I have experimented on quite a few of these, drilling holes all over the place and settled on what sounds the best.

    The Sound
I've been living with a modded pair of these for a few months now and they're the best iem's I've ever heard. Flat FR, perfect tone and timbre, endlesss resolution, great dynamics, tight extended bass, very clean extended treble and no coherency issues that plague BA iems. They are tuned neutral and so they sound great out of a phone with compressed music, but they have uncanny scaling ability. If you have a TOTL rig that is quiet enough for them, they just keep scaling. Out of my Yggdrasil and TOTL tube amps they sound like full size TOTL orthos, only limited by the form factor of being inside your ears so a smaller sound, I could be happy with only these iems. I'll stop there and let you all decide :)

There is more information on my website

The first 10 units will sell for $390 including a beautiful OCC copper cable in 3.5mm or 4.4mm and a nice leather case. I may need to increase the price after this depending on real world costs of parts and labor but I'm trying to sell them at an affordable price if I can to make them accessible.

I have put together 1 modded pair and plan to put together a second soon. After the states, these 2 pairs can go to Canada and the EU. So feel free to sign up if you live there. I may make a new thread then so people see it.

TIPS: They come with every size of Azla Crystal tips in a cool case I found with dividers for each size. Please please don’t mix them up. It’s hard to tell the sizes apart visually. I will also include a box of alcohol wipes for disinfecting the tips. But you should also know that COVID cannot spread through ear contact. It’s nose and mouth.

NOTE: I've got 2 pairs of finished RD-X's here (rhythmdevils modded LCD-X) and will restart my loaner tour for them soon, they are currently touring with local headphone enthusiasts who are on Discord.

I've had some really bad luck with these. I made 2 pairs for the recent Bay Area meet, and gave one to a friend after the meet and the other one got messed up during the meet somehow. You know how meets are. So I made another pair to replace it and it seems to have had the drivers wired out of phase by Letshuoer. (that's my best guess - weird staging and imaging) but the mod itself is perfect. Letshuoer has done a silent revision to the internal shells of the S12 adding female and male posts inside that are glued together and I haven't figured out how to get them open yet. I'm going to have to to have a custom tool made for me and I've reached out to a number of crafty people here and some others outside this community to try to figure something out.

I honestly only listen to my RD-S12's these days, they are effortless in a way that I have not heard from anything but high end stax, but these don't have that fake ethereal tone as they are orthos. Plus when I can get this sound out of an iem, I really like having less "stuff" on my head.

I like them so much I got a Stellaris to see how they sound with them.

So I've made a number of pairs, but only have my personal pair that are sounding as they should right now due to the silent revision, loosing one to the meet, giving a couple away, and one being wired wrong by Letshuoer. (If this happens to one you buy, I'll replace it no questions asked, but I think it's a rarity.)

I want to share these and get them out there as soon as I can. Hopefully I'll find a custom tool soon that will work.
