Loaner: Vera-Fi Audio Vanguard Speakers (passive bookshelf monitors)

Thanks for picking them up in person, Yotacowboy. It’s always nice to put a face to a name. I am happy to share with you and others what’s going on in my lab. Have fun and happy listening with the Vanguards! The TPA3255 is a great amp to use with it. If you can pair the Warp-1 that is still on tour with it, that would be ideal. It likes some headroom so 50w amp is welcome.

 

Glad you like the price. It’s very competitive given the quality of the build, the fit and finish, and the crossover and driver components used. Most of all, it’s all in the voicing of the crossover and drivers selected.

 

Just wanted to share the playlist that Yotacowboy and I listened to today (about 30 to 45 seconds of each song). Good list to exercise speakers and check out dynamics and extension. Last artist was Max Cooper, someone Yotacowboy just introduced me to. Good stuff.

People too busy or not in market at this juncture: bookshelf speaker at this price etc. I assume its excellent or better in comparison to competition based on knowing you from diya…

 

I imagine its a rough time of year for speaker tour (which is probably a smaller subset of SBAF to begin with)

 

Thanks for your vote of confidence! All the people who have heard this speaker so far (over a dozen) have said only great things about it. But the SBAF crowd is a more discerning set of ears I think so I never know for sure. I think more people staying at home for telework has been a boon for headphones but sometimes we all need to listen to free space speakers for a change.

 

We only prefer headphones when we cant use speakers.

Our speaker subforum is small, like 14 pages, which is nothing compared to diyaudio (like 14k pages im guessing). This forum appears to attract people who are into diy as well so I dont think there is a ton of interest for commercial speakers even if yours are remarkable. Just guessing for why low interest on loaner. Yes, the members who havent heard much outside of cheap computer monitors would be completely floored at hearing this loaner pair im sure. Maybe if a small amp were included it could get some of these people to bother? Then again, the reason a lot of people use headphones is because they dont have the space etc for speakers.

 

Including an amp is a great idea and is not a problem - a basic compact Class D could work if people don’t have their own amps. The Warp-1 loaner would be ideal but that would be two loaner packages to ship. That’s the thing about speakers and headphones - you don’t know how it sounds until you try it out.

If its best logistically yes, otherwise no. I wouldn't have the budget for another amp anytime soon.

 

Great news - we have a couple more people on the list now. If anyone needs a basic amp I can send you my SMSL SA-300 as a loaner. Small package so USPS Priority should be about $13 with insurance. Unfortunately it is still too big to stuff inside the same box that the speakers ship in.

@dasman66 you will be getting both the Warp 1 amp and the Vanguard speakers, but probably not at the same time. So just hold onto whichever one you get first until you get the other one so you can listen to them together. You are last on the list for both, so this will be fine. And I'm sure @xrk971 won't mind you holding onto them to hear them together. Plus this means you get extra time with one of them!

Sure! Do you want the Warp 1 amp as well seeing that you're in PA along with Dasman66?

 

I would say no, since I want to hear what they sound like in my existing system, unless there's a compelling reason.

 

Just an opportunity. . I'll add you before Dassman66 without the Warp 1. Tag me if you change your mind and want to hear them with the Warp 1 amp.
