Loaner: Vera-Fi Audio Vanguard Speakers (passive bookshelf monitors)

I only recently learned of these after seeing the impressions thread. I would be extremely interested in trying the loaner pair considering that they won't be available for retail for a bit. If they're not available for a stop in Michigan, no worries.

The comparison to Chartwell LS3/5A has me very intrigued. I was mildly involved with Graham Audio a few years ago as they began USA distribution so I am quite familiar with the sound. I am really dying to hear this Vera Fi. I thought their LS3/5 was better than the LS3/5A, so I am wondering if the Vanguard might be a little bit of both?

 

Not sure if these would come to Canada (Toronto, ON), or if I would qualify for the tour, but I am definitely interested in hearing them. I had the P3esr standards for years and currently have the P3ESR XDs that I run with a Heed Obelisk SI3 and Yggdrasil LIM. I love the small, sealed monitors. Based on the listening impressions that I have read, these sound like my kind of speaker.

Thanks. This makes sense. If @xrk971 is ok with a Canadian leg of the tour, I wonder if there are any other Canadians interested so we could split the shipping costs. I would be principally interested in the speakers.

 

I'm in for the amp and speakers. I can unbox my Audia Flight FLS-1 for preamp duties as well as use my Monoprice HTP-1 which is what I've been using lately. Will be a very interesting endeavor.

These just turned up this evening. After opening the box and making a cursory examination - the only thing I note is each of the mesh grills over the tweeters has a shallow & gentle crease in them, but well above the the driver.

Given that it's 38 degrees here, I think I'll let them acclimate overnight and hook them up tomorrow.

 

If the speaker tour is still open, I’d like to try these. I’m in NYC.

I hope a crease in the mesh grille has not resulted in damage to the tweeters during shipment. Can you please post a picture? They should be a smooth dome shape.

They should look like this:

 

Tough to photograph. It is pretty shallow, and looks like it is not close to the tweeter. If this one is at 3:00, the other is similar size/shape at 6:00

 

Not that you need a picture of it, a visual inspection is obviously fine, but if you want to try, light coming from behind the tweeter or even 90 degrees from you might pass through the grill and show the tweeter. I don’t know if you have any light source but even a flashlight would work.

 

I think it’s ok. A mild dent in the mesh dome. I don’t think it went far back enough to bother the tweeter dome or phase by itself.

 

For each speaker, there is at least 1/8" clearance between the pushed-in section of mesh and the 4 arm spider thing on the tweeter.

Dang, I've been gone a long time, searching for these brought me back. If it's at all possible I'd love to get on the list, just for the speakers. I'm in Arizona and not in any hurry. Thank you!
