Well, I caved and ordered one. When I look at it I'll just pretend it's black. lol

I'll let you know how it pairs with an Atticus.

Much appreciated! After 6 months of running the Modi Multibit-jot, I'm looking to jump into tubes and was considering the Woo wa6 ... I love the build quality, but just can't convince myself the value is there, then the Lyr 3 dropped and I'm hoping that might be the ticket. Ultimately I'm probably a mid-fi guy ... maybe at some point I'll have a smart enough ear to appreciate the value in a $8000 amp/HP pair but ... that time isn't now, so I have high hopes for the Lyr 3..

Also, my lord does the new Woo Audio website SUCK. holy crap.

There is going to be a massive sound difference between a hybrid tube amp like the Lyr 3, and OTL or transformer coupled tube amps. I predict the Lyr 3 won't give you massive sound changes between different tubes like the Bottlehead Crack does. If you want to get into tubes, pick your amp architecture carefully.

I've been enjoying the Jot + Bifrost Multibit for a long while, but recently got a Valhalla 2 to try an OTL amp, which I've greatly enjoyed.

Now with the Lyr 3 being released, I'm wondering if it can provide the best of both worlds.

Any thoughts on the Lyr 3 vs Valhalla 2?

Is the general consensus that newly purchased Jotunheims sound better than the older ones?
And is this leaning towards confirming that the new Jotunheims use a constant transconductance output stage?

I spent some time with the proto-Lyr 3 at the Pasadena meet back in July. I listened with the HD600. I was really impressed with the sound. It was one of the few rigs I went back to twice. The Af was another.
It’s a really good amp IMHO. I won’t give any buy recommendations. Always try to listen to gear first if possible. Duh. But I will say if I had the Valhalla 2 as my only amp, I would want to hear this. Let’s say this. It’s tempting for me, but I have enough amps already. But I might sell a couple of my amps to pay for this one. Jason told me they wanted to hit a $500-$600 price range. Nice job Jason and Mike!

Yeah, excellent points, I'm really looking for something to get the most out of the Atticus that's below $1k as, for me, it seems like there are diminishing returns above that point. Basically looking for a eitr>Modi Multibit> ? for the atticus

I'm not the one to help with Atticus synergy. I didn't care for it all that much. Anyone else?

Should be fine to good really.

Tubes of any kind + not warm or rolled treble = success with the Atticus.

Eitr/Modi Multibit/Magni 3 (or Vali 2) would be a much smaller footprint, assuming that you can power and hide the wall warts without problems.

This is no guarantee that a Pi running Volumio will work with the MB module.

It would, but silver on black pictures looks good! Plus, without black finish the Schiit people have probably less to worry about. This could cause some issues I think.

regarding a black version. Give it time. The case vendor will eventually screw up and will be required to refinish the surface black. The more people that buy the silver unit, the more Schiit will need to order, and more likely the vendor will screw up a batch.

I would have went ahead and ordered if black were an option. Funny how vain I can be Everything else I have is now black. Waiting for the vendor to screw up doesnt give me much hope.

The way I look at Woo amps is that you're half paying for an amplifier and half paying for a decorative statement piece. I've owned a WA3 and WA6 along the way, and while both were very nice to look at I ultimately found better sounding amps for less money. Can't fault them for it, since it's been a rock-solid strategy since the first wealthy person self-identified as "audiophile".

Respect! If more people had such an honest assessment of their own listening abilities we wouldn't be in this $6,000 headphone mess of a market.

Linux is actually the easiest to deal with USB audio. None of the Schiit devices have had issues as far as I am aware.

Ha, same ... what I can't figure out is, why don't they just offer black in the first place? I get the whole vendor screw-up story, but just black 50 out right away ... why miss the sales? That said, I do product as well and I get how just getting out the vanilla on-time is challenging enough.

Anyway, I hope they move to officially having black as an option - part of hobby for me is liking the look of your stuff, and I don't like the look of aluminum boxes.

Is there any sense in upgrading my Gen 1 DAC module to the Gen 2 (in my Jot)? Is there enough of a sound quality difference to warrant it?
