Give the Magni 3 some warm up time and leave it on at all times. It's all over the place when cold. After 30 minutes, sounds like a mini Jot with fixed treble. Slighty warm on low end and neutral highs (it won't smooth over Glen Fry's sibilants on Hotel California). Crisp transients. Surprising amount of punch and dynamics. Less grain than Magni 2U.

With Modi Multibit, ETIR, MP (upcoming purchase)....as much as I would like to pick Magni 3, I just don't know if I can cope with one more wal-wart. Maybe Schiit will release a show boxed sized power brick that would power up a half dozen mini schiits, offer power condition etc.

Didn't you read the Schiit happened chapter? Jason describes it as a tiny Vidar :) and warmish also, but with good resolution and whatnot.

Which means the Magni is still a mini speaker amp!

Quick impressions with SDAC and HD650 KISS (between HD650 and HD600, but without the 3kHz stuff that @Hands doesn't like, while retaining the slight 5kHz peak of the HD650). Recordings Used: Temple of the Dog and Rostropovich Cello Suites (ripped from CD). USB from POS Levono laptop into SDAC.

    Expanded from prior post:

Give the Magni 3 some warm up time and leave it on at all times. It's all over the place when cold. Sometimes too warm, sometimes not, definitely sibilant. After 30 minutes, sounds like a mini Jot with fixed treble. No glare. Slighty warm on low end and neutral highs (it still won't smooth over Glen Fry's sibilants on Hotel California). Again keep in mind that I am using SDAC. A Modi Multibit will sound different. Crisp transients. Focused and precise. Robust bass. Surprising amount of punch and dynamics.

Compared to Magni 3, Magni 2U exhibits following:
    1. More veiled. A teeny bit.
    2. Less robust low bass. A bit.
    3. Grainer less refined treble. A bit.
    4. Less focus, less precise transients. A bit.
    5. Deeper soundstage. A bit. Magni 3 is less deep by about 6.437mm. A little behind my eyes as opposed in being in front of my eyeballs.
    6. More diffuse localization of sounds and instruments. A bit. Magni 3 is more precise. Matter of personal preference. Some people like the HD800 with the SBAF rug pad. Other's dont.
    7. Lesser microdynamcs. More than a bit, but still in terms of bit. Magni 2U is notably flatter. Magni 3 is more engaging.
    8. Plankton seems about same, at least with the SDAC as source.
The flatter sound of the Magni 2U is why I usually opt for the Vali 2, despite Vali 2 having more rounded and less precise lows, less extended bass, and more than a bit of a veil.

I also got a production Vali 2 to compare to (LOL, I never bothered with a production Vali 2 before today). The big question to me is how close is the Magni 3 to the Vali 2 in terms of liveliness and immediacy (microdynamics). To be continued...

@Hands doesn't like any nastiness between 1KHz-8KHz. The right kind of nastiness can bother me equally. :)

I have observed that you seem to be OK witth slight amounts of 8.5kHz (and up) and can live with small 5kHz bump of the HD650.

Yes, 8K and up is less of an issue. Small stuff is no sweat. HD650 5K bump isn't even on my radar. But make it nasty enough, and it's game over.

Anyway...Magni 3 looks good and interesting! Nice job @schiit

My Schiit shipped today! I should get it Tuesday. I looked at the Modi Multibit measurements, and I'll probably try it first on the optical. If I get a console again, I might have to get the Schiit Eitr. I may end up doing that anyway.

The Magni 3 has everything the Uber had but is theoretically better. And cheaper.

Jason has also stated that part of the point of the Magni 3 is to only offer one version of it, so I'd be very surprised to see another Magni 3 variant.
