Geoffrey Oryema has been a favorite, this one "Lapwony" was on "Beat the Border".

Sturgill brought back to semi-mainstream the real outlaw country stuff that was happening in the 70s.
He's got some serious pipes, and this song was originally on an album he wrote for his son. Now after cutting a rock album he went and dropped two bluegrass albums. Because he wanted to. And he doesn't really seem to care what people think.

If you want to understand the lyrics, no one makes it clearer than this guy, discovered by chance on Roon radio, he's apparently been around a while and has some stunning and powerful covers and originals.

Great thread! Some good new avenues to explore and some solid reminders of less listened to artists too.

Not much Chris Cornell in the thread yet, his voice is so special. There's so many great performances of his, but I've been listening to this one a lot lately:

Stevie Wonder. Need one say more?

I remember hearing that someone gave Stevie Wonder a cheese grater for Christmas. When they ran into each other a few weeks later he asked Stevie whether he'd used the gift yet. Stevie replied, "Yeah man. It was the most violent book I've ever read!"

Any resemblance to reality is pure coincidence.

Came here to post that Disturbed video myself. Heard it on the radio a couple days ago and now I can't get it out of my head. Gotta be one of the most epic covers ever.
