Massdrop Plus IEM

Hi newbie here I've been enjoying them on my daily commute with the onkyo dp-X1 via balanced jack. There may be better out there but has satisfied my portable needs for now.

I managed to buy my dap used for that price and really great feature is that it has the ability to use Tidal offline which most DAPs can't

 

It never popped out by itself but I find the cable connection a bit too lose. I disconnected one of the cables few times just pooling MD+ out of my ears.

 

It is definitely loose, but with me it comes out if I am just walking around.

I have another two pin IEM and it is definitely not as loose as the Massdrop Plus. In fact, it takes a little force to remove the cable.

 

Best connectors are Fitear , by far! MMCX is a pain to remove sometimes

 

Got this recently and blew me in terms of detail retrieval. Very sensitive in terms of source and mastering of the track. On spiral dot, managed to do a deep insert using the same method like etymotics (pulling earlobs during insertion) which gives a good isolation and removal of that nasty sibilance.

 

Anyone swapped out the 2.5 balanced Massdrop cable with a good high quality copper - e.g PW 1960's?? Just thinking that the pairing could work. Will try in the weekend..but interested in people's experiences. I've only had the plus for a few hours, but seems like a balanced copper pairing might be sensible...

 

I didn't say anything about buying? Just interested in what people have and have already tried.

 

I've been using the Mee audio dual flange tips for some weeks now and got a bit tired of shoving them inside my narrow ear canals, so I switched to the stock dual flanges and found that there's a massive difference in the bass response and overall smoothness!

Definitely try out the mee tips (or some other tips that allow for deeper insertion) if you can, really takes these to a nice place sonically and makes them match the so-called hype

 

Anyone use these with the ZX300? Balanced or standard? I imagine the sound is similar to out of the ZX2 with their similar ~1.5 OI?

I'm in on the latest drop thinking that even though I don't like BA, their comfort and isolation will be perfect for flying.

 

^I am very unhappy when I forget my Plus on flights. Lightweight, comfortable...great for movies or music with this tuning.

I recommend in general also flying with one of those $49 iFi IEM Match units.

Great to lower the onboard announcements which can be fixed and fed through movie system or just reduce noise in noisy systems with adjustability.

Yes...working on getting more balanced cables plus one that comes with extras.

 

Lovely. A well priced cable with a whole bunch of adapters would be great. Something like the MEE Audio cable + adapters...

 

Any suggestions on how to keep the cables from slipping out of the IEMs without using glue?

I haven't had mine slip out while inserted and in my ear, however, a couple of times they have fallen off due to their own weight while dangling on the cable. Potentially scary when I pull them out to talk to someone and let them hang for a minute or so.

Anyone have any good solutions for increasing friction in the connector? Maybe it is possible to slip something in next to the connector to make the fit tighter. At this point I may just add a thing strip of tape either side to hold it on tighter.

 

Yeah. This cables slipping out thing is quite odd and not something I've even remotely experienced. I've used 3 sets of cables with the MDP. Original balanced, Rhapsodio Sakura, finally settling on a excellent Kumitate labs Licht. 0 issues with any of them slipping out.

 

I've got mine finally. I think these are an ideal travel IEM. The fit, low profile (for sleeping in a plane) and isolation is superb, and the extra bass is good for background noise. Plus, they're basically at the point in SQ where you dont miss what's missing in comparison to TOTL when you take into account what's lost in the background noise of a train or airplane. That also mitigates some of the fact that they're BA and not DD (my strong preference) too. And at USD 300, you don't have to baby them too much.

I love them out of the ZX300. They're thicker and bassier than the Andros, but not as spacious, seperated or extended treble wise. No hiss.

Out of the GOV2A there's some hiss and they sound too thin and bright for me.
