I didn't get my license until 23, but then again in Europe it is perfectly practical - not to mention usually faster - to travel everywhere by public transport.

Only now that I live in very small towns do I travel to regularly to locations that require a car.

In a city I'd just get a big moped. In Milan its common to see an army of people in office suits in 200-500cc mopeds at stoplights in the morning (because why deal with parking a car if you don't have to).

Which actually sounds weird now that I think about it. Swarmed by salarymen

They will want to drive sooner or later when they are in a big state like Texas.

My GF due to money issues and poorer family never taught her how to drive. In FL you need a car to survive unless you are in Miami. GF is very limited on jobs due to she is limited on distance.

I was amazed when my son was somewhat meh about getting his driver's license at 16. That lasted until his first girlfriend after he turned 16. I was at the dmv door 15 minutes before they opened on the day I was 15 3/4, chomping at the bit. But then I realized that a large portion of his non-school social life was virtual. Much different times.

Some people never really bother getting driver's licences despite knowing how to operate a vehicle (cough). It's kinda part of the territory with how public transportation and ride sharing is that much more convenient compared to before, not to mention there's that whole Eco Warrior™ guilt thing; a few of the more posh locales encourage walking around for both personal and environmental health and because these places were properly planned it's not entirely unfeasible.

The additional ID can be useful at times but that's about it.

Could also just be a regional thing. I've got a few friends who live in Texas now or have relatives they visit there and I hear about how you literally cannot get around to doing anything without driving a couple minutes in some places.

We were in Denver, which is pretty hard to get around without a car. There is a bus system, but it sucks. I think he just didn't perceive a need. Until he considered trying to get laid on the bus. Worse than the shift lever.

I used to chat with Uber/Grab drivers a lot to practise my small talk skills before the whole pandemic thing. Uhhhh you'd be surprised what some people get up to even with witnesses; can't put it past the ol kid in good conscience (shrug) :p

It comes down to disclosure. Fraud = deceiving someone by concealing key information. Buying power on Griddy is less risky than some options strategies, but people are well informed that options can be dangerous and institutions typically limit what you can do based on your trading experience. It comes down to what a "reasonable person" is, and that's very situational.

    @YMO:

Isn't it funny that while we were pointing out the nature of Trump's boorish behavior as old school NYC, Cuomo was pulling off that same kind of shit all along? Well, we did see Cuomo start to crack (being shitty, acting like Trump, etc.) after reporters started asking him difficult questions toward the latter part of 2020.

Yup, Cuomo definitely deserved an Emmy for his masterful performance during the early days of COVID, but he sure didn't fool us two. Just saying...

You know @purr1n, I saw that picture that was floating around yesterday with him and that third person who is accusing him of assault. Honestly, I looked at that photo and it appeared Cuomo was acting like an old-school Italian guy. Most old school folks don't think that shit is offensive, I mean I don't (or maybe I could be an asshole, who knows). I know this, #METOO will eat up the Dem politicians much more than the GOP side.

Let the NY drama continue, the FL GOP (and Gov Desantis who is becoming more popular each day) will continue to market NY'ers to move to FL since the GOP knows how to run a state with less taxes. Even if the FL GOP has the same old-school NYC types who are just as bunch of assholes as the folks up in NY, so it is a match made in heaven.

I know this, if Trump doesn't run in 2024 then most likely Desantis will jump into the presidential race in 2024. He IMO is the only GOP guy who can pick up the most Trump voters + enough urban/suburban GOP voters + enough white working class votes + conservative Spanish voters + business class to win the Dems in 2024. He needs to run for reelection for Gov in 2022, but he will win that shit easily. More and more people approving him in FL not closing down the state and let things open, including tons of moderates and independent voters. Even some of the heavy GOP pending bills in FL Legislature are getting board support from the public. Also, FL Dems are super weak for a party at this time.

I did not know Lithgow published, but now I see he is prolific. I wonder if any of it is more than the occasional worthy satirical wit.

    One word: satire.

Why? To mock those in power and the powerless and to parade observations like subtle distractions until those who suffer from stupidity learn.

Now repeat after me: "It is an ex-parrot. It has ceased to be..."

Statistic Canada finally started compiling some real numbers of excess deaths for 2020, as it was easy to guess from the local news is Canada, the lockdowns were not less lethal than COVID 19. Stats Canada is admirably honest, one of the reasons is that maybe 1% of people bother to read the real statistic, instead of relying on the BS spewing media.

"After several months during which deaths fell within the expected range, Canada once again experienced excess mortality at a national level beginning in September. From September to November, 3,626 excess deaths were reported nationally. Within this same period, there were 1,835 deaths reported to have been caused directly by COVID-19, although this number is expected to rise as more deaths are reported by the provinces and territories."

By the way further in the text it is pretty clear that both numbers of COVID related and unrelated deaths are expected to rise.

Here are the details, for fact checkers

Interesting, and expected (at least by me), as far as excess indirect deaths from the pandemic. However I don’t understand how this data supports your argument that “the lockdowns were not less lethal than COVID 19” (which is basically saying the lockdowns were more lethal than COVID, or at least similar)? How do we know that the absence of lockdowns wouldn’t have meant many more direct COVID deaths, far exceeding indirect deaths?

How do you figure (your numbers) to say that?

3626-1835=1791, which is < than 1835. As they admit these numbers are preliminary so 1835 is to get larger as they revise.

Also, what evidence (besides anecdotal from your wife psych practice) do you have for your assertion of cause - lockdowns (however defined) are the cause of these non-Covid correlated excess deaths (currently 1791, to be revised down through time)?

As a polite reminder: Don't always look at the Statistics #s from the government at face value (regardless or political party). Statistics can be designed to be deceiving to the public.
