I would like to get in on this one. I've been considering buying one of these but would prefer to see how much of a difference it makes first.

    I'm in San Diego.

@Wfojas, where are you located? Should we start WC or with Austin?

Let us know. Does $15 to the loaner pool sound fair to everyone? I can share my Paypal via PM (monies will be forwarded to Captain Marvey)

15 sounds right. Start with WC and work across.

I am in the L.A. area, so we can wend through there first. Couple of things:
    1. I would like it back by the end of July, so we can keep an open list, but have to cap off by then. That would accommodate everyone signed so far if we keep and pass within 7 days each?
    2. I got it from Luckbad with nothing else. No box, no power cord, no usb, no spdif, no RCA to BNC converter. I am sourcing these right now, and can send it out when those come in.
    3. I will assume you have a usb cable, lol.
    4. I will request a picture of everything it comes with when it gets to you. That way we can ensure that nothing gets misplaced, and the next person should have everything he will need to test it. Otherwise, if something is missing, there will be a delay in testing and passing it on.

That's it, and if you could post impressions. I will post when I have everything ready to go. Closest is Ohhgourami, so far. PM me for your address, or you are welcome to come by and pass for it.

Hey, does anyone have a decent BNC-BNC 75 ohm cable? I got one in last night, and it didn't sound right, so short of buying something, I wanted to ask if someone could share it for this exercise. ohhgourami doesn't need BNC-BNC, so I can get this going once I find packaging.

Forgot to mention in my PM, but please gift the loaner pool payment on Paypal so I/we don't have to pay fees.

Sent it out yesterday, with the power cord only, as I couldn't find an RCA to BNC adapter that I wasn't using. If anyone needs one,you can probably buy it ahead of time if needed.

Comparing the Mutec to my Lynx AES16e using the vinyl rip of Fleetwood Mac - Dreams as my test track:

Compared to my Lynx, the Mutec with AES output sounds a bit laidback (not as direct). Things sound a bit farther away. The other very noticeable difference is in texture as Dreams has a fat bass to it and textural info is missing with the Mutec - a hollow sound. The imaging and separating is pretty similar with the Lynx edging it out just by a tiny bit.

BNC seems to make the Mutec sound worse. The weaknesses of the Mutec in AES seemed to have exaggerated with BNC. More hollow and busier.

Some of you guys know that I've had a lot of issues with hum in my system. I've had to snip the ground wire on my AES cable to get no noise floor. I tried using a stock AES cable on the Mutec and there was no hum.

I believe the Mutec can be had for less than the Lynx and no everyone uses a desktop for listening therefore PCI-e x1 is out of the question. Mutec 1.2 is not a bad buy. Generally comparing these type of devices are very hard as the differences are super subtle. People in the market for this stuff already have a certain level of gear that resolving enough.

Who am I passing this onto?

The Lynx AES output should be far superior to the PCs USB output. If your DAC could take that could you compare USB direct vs Mutec? I ask, as I have no AES in in the Gungnir Multibit.

Also, the hum is from the Lynx card, then?

Alright I'll do a direct USB to Yggdrasil vs Mutec using BNC.

The hum is coming from my PC. Anything that uses a 5V and ground will have hum. My requirements were no 5V and ground and could do very long runs and AES fit that.
